Leopards are often attacked and killed by lions, so they tend to hang out and sleep in high spots - including trees. It was always exciting and not unusual to see a leopard sleeping in a tree. They also often drag their kill into a tree - I have one photo of a large impala (one of the antelopes of the region) hanging about fifty feet up in a tree! It was very exciting, though, to see this wide-awake kitty up in a tree - especially since the late afternoon sun was illuminating him in such a fantastic light.
Taken on my recent trip to South Africa - see:

What wonderful photos. It must have been wonderful to shoot these lovely creatures. You have done an excellent job.
Splendid shots! Thanks for sharing.
A great set of a beautiful cat
Great shots. Feline behavior is the same across species. Who has a domestic house cat that had not been in the exact poses as this magnificent leopard?
Very nice set. I really like the last one with his (her) eyes showing. Did you see many leopards? And was it common to see them up in trees?
These are really fantastic images, Steve, and sure it was a great trip!
Great shots Steve, if its stuck I will let you rescue it...
