Been using Nik software almost one it first arrived, best plug-in that I ever found for image editing in Photoshop. I understand Google will not be updating it in the future and if there is changes in Photoshop or in the operating systems of the I Mac or Windows we might lose the Nik plug-Ins. Any suggestions on if it is possible not to update any new versions of photoshop or update any new OS for my computer, using a I Mac. I am sure many other people have the same concerns, thank you, Rich M.

When Adobe updates, sometimes it won't find your plugins in their old directory. All you have to do is locate the folder where the old versioin of PS stores it's plugins and copy them over to the same directory folder for the updated version.

This used to happen with Topaz, but it hasn't in a while.

As long as it keep working, you're okay. If PS changes that much that it no longer works, then it's time to move on.

Yes, Jerry, I agree, time to move on to a better stable editing program... like Affinity.... PS/Adobe has been King of the Hill for many years and is now under direct threat.... unable to sell, it went to the Bleed You Slowly rental approach. Few use all of PS toys, why bother to get the non-used. Also many abandon free excellent editor prgrams... eg Light Zone does raw and for example has many camera RAW curves ... once sold now Open Source maintained.

Same concerns here with using the NIK suite. Too bad that Google will just discard them as if they never existed leaving many faithful users without future support. Eventually, the plugins will encounter some inconsistency and no longer function with an updated version of Photoshop or Lightroom.

Dead in the water. You may still be able to use it depending on upgrades to operating systems, but it will be completely defunct in the short future.

The good news is, the guys from Nik have started a new company called Luminar. There are a lot of similarities using the same filters with similar or recognizable names and functions. This is the replacement. Tough on a lot of us who have been using Nik for ten years and paid close to $500 for the bundle, but this is what we've got now, for a much more affordable price.

Plug in and extension do not really add to adobe at all, They are simply showing you how little you know about Adobe PS SS, LR or whatever. Learn the program well (it takes time) then discard all the expensive crutches many are use to purchase. That includes the HDR, Stitching and what not interdependent software that is useful only if you intent the break Adobe size limitation.

Of note NIK has been free for a loooooooog time.

Yes, we all know that Nik has been free since Google bought it. That was also the beginning of the end. We knew that too.

This is what happens when big companies with too much money to spend buy up smaller companies and then dump them. It is all about money.

The next new version of Photoshop will render the NIK collection useless. That's what I'm told by some people that lecture often about Adobe products.

LUMINAR is the way to go.... Very inexpensive, very easy to use and great rendering...

We have to also consider the underlying operating system.

there was some talk about it going to a monthly fee. If so I would sign up. I'm also looking forward to Lumiar. I ordered the HDR program which will be out in a week or so.

I just bought Affinity Photo and like it and am learning it. The tutorial videos are good. Is Luminar significantly better? The prices are about the same. With Affinity I have no need for Elements and can discard Aperture when I upgrade my OS far enough to render it useless anyway. But... would I be better off cutting my losses and moving over right now to Luminar?
