Where will Ricoh be, with the Pentax brand, in 5 years time?

The lack of third party lenses will be major problem. Consumer Pentax lenses are very expensive compared to equivalent Sigma and Tamron products, and believe what you will, seem to test out little or no better. I have used Pentax since the K100D, and have a nice collection of lenses, mostly third party. If I did not already have these lenses I would swap to a brand with better resources.

Looking at the Pentax site. The small lcd on the top is only for setting info. The viewfinder is hidden behind the articulated Large LCD on the back. Look at CrisT look at it again.

Is this an answer to my comment about the KP?

If it's in relation to the K-1 ... I'm not sure I understand it ...

That's very helpful, WT ... glad to know that ...

They have three of note, though, that may not have been bettered by Sigma, Tamron, or Tokina ...

They are the 16-85 ... the 55-300, and the 18-135 ...

Yes it is. There is a LCD on the top of the camera, but it is not for viewing, only for setting info. At the Pentax site the picture changes to 4 views, front, back with Monitor LCD down in place, top, and with the back LCD rotated out. The only LCD on the top (where you mentioned) is showing settings. My post is in error, the Viewfinder is above the monitor. That is not clear in the view with the Monitor articulated out.

Hassig ... rather than setting this straight ...

Now, you've complicated it even more than you did, the first time ...

If this is about the K-1 ... everything looks as it should ... if it's about the KP ... I'll take another look ...

I'm confused by this discussion also. The K-1 and KP have similar design. Each has a moveable 3" LCD on the back that alternates between settings and LiveView; the K-1 does have an auxiliary LCD on top to show settings, but the smaller KP does not have that LCD. Personally, if something has to be sacrificed because of size, I would rather lose the LCD than lose the dials.

They do, indeed, RE ... very similar ... but the KP lacks the top-deck LCD ....

The K-1 has one ... but, considering how much bigger it is than the KP - it is surprisingly small ...

One would think, they could have kept it the same size as the one in the K-3 and K-3II ... but - noooooooooooo!!!!

With them you can control the following while looking through the viewfinder

Nothing important here, or so you say.

That-a-way, RE ... you sock it to 'em!!!!!

Back in the day, Pentax was known for its svelte systems; when I talk about the KP being "retro", returning to those svelte roots is part of that. Even today, many Pentax users value their "limited" prime lenses, which are quite small. The team which designed the KP clearly stated that one of their goals was to produce a camera body on which a "limited" lens would look good.

Is the KP only available in the "silver" finish, then, RE?
