Amfoto ... not really making stuff up ... it was a guess, since clearly - APS was an alternate proportion sensor to 35mm FF sensors ... and since my first familiarity with it came from my experience with Canon cameras - and their proportion size was a little different than the other three - Sony, Pentax, Nikon ... I made the assumption the C designation - constituted Canon's own unique alternate proportion size sensor ... I debated for some time as to whether the S was for size or sensor, finally settling on the latter. When I look back on it - the assumptions I made about what it meant - weren't far off the mark! ... However, thanks for straightening me out!

With a couple of changes, though, ElNikkor ... 10-20 is certainly nice to have, but you don't need to have it everywhere you go ... and an 18-55 - not much use for such a minimum range ... most of my kit lenses have never even made it out the door ... 55-300 - good range, but leaves you wanting on the bottom ... 18-300 ...
now, that would be some choice ... one lens ... no changes necessary ....

Everyone with a DX body needs a 35mm Prime.

I suspect, though ... if you have a 35mm Prime, which is ALSO a Macro - you're covered on both counts, and - if it's a DX - then that actually translates to a "nifty fifty" on an FX .... or, thereabouts ....

Tamron has a new 18-400 for dx... a little more than the $500 but getting fairly good reviews.

Yes, Macaya ... it's been mentioned in other posts ...

Look at the one - 18-300 Class ...

It's $650 though ...

Not UNDER $500 ... but, yes ... I have read some of those good reviews ... shame they didn't keep it at 16 ...

Used to be the 18-105 was THE kit lens, for Nikon DX Bodies. Then, they came out with this new 18-140. Neither lens has gotten particularly good reviews, has it? In fact, the older 18-105 has actually fared better than this one.
Nikon users, what would be YOUR recommendation for an all-around AP-Z (you can choose a third party one, too!)

Seeing good reviews from several sources for the Nikon 24-85 AFS lens, I picked one up about seven years ago, knowing I was going to digital soon. It was on ebay for $150.00. When I received my D90 the 24-85 went right on it and was a great walk around. Now on my D7100 and it's still great. Not too long ago, I picked up a refurb of the VR version and it's even better in low light for obvious reasons. It's light weight and quick focusing, covering most of what I shoot. It's a sleeper that has stood the test of time for me.

Well, that's good, Pete ... glad the 24-85 has worked out for you ...
