Thank you Angela k , you must use the latin? name to find it a garden book or in the store. This plant kills gophers (roots contain and seed pod contain a poison) Thanks for the kind words.

Beautiful series. I've never seen this plant before. Love the photo of mom feeding 'baby'. 'Baby' looks to be almost the same size as mom.

I love these. Haven't heard the thing about the gophers. Mine seem to thrive on it! My bush looks health, but it didn't bloom this year. It has never done that before.

Thank you AzPicLady. I googled them, (when looking for help with gophers),planted them and offer anecdotal evidence.
We live next to a golf course and I planted them over the "gopher highway" to my garden. We had three or more gophers climb out of their burrows and lie twitching on the ground. The best part being this is the first summer with no gophers in the garden. I know anecdotal information at best, but I enjoy the thought of deadly beauty nonetheless.

I have a beautiful specimen of this plant. Here in Central Texas, we call it "Pride of Barbados." I whack it back every winter; it reemerges every May and blooms all summer and into fall, preferring lots of sun, a lot of heat, and little water. SCORE! I still haven't figured out how to propagate them, though. I knick the seeds, soak them overnight, start the seedlings under paper toweling and plastic wrap. Then, when they emerge, I plant them in tiny pots in potting soil. I can get them to grow about 4" tall in a pot...and then they die. :( I've tried twice now.

Thanks for the idea Deborah, I will grab the seed pods and give it a try. Pride of Barbados is listed as one of its names,
funny how each area has it own name for the same guy. We have it on one end of the yard and Lantana on the other .
Can spend the days watching the Hummers, Butterflies and Orioles flirt back and forth between two.

Thank you Dek, I hope there will still be a few "dwarf poinciana" in Florida come Monday. If you are sheltering in place I hope it is high and dry. Stay well and post a few when it is safe.
