Last time I was in Oregon it was the same way. I pulled into the pumps to top up the rental. I got out walked up to the pump to fuel up. An attendant rushed over and advised me that I couldn't pump my own gas. State law he said.

When I lived in NJ, up until 4 years ago, they still filled your gas tank. It was illegal to fill your own tank. I don't know if that is still true or not.

Checked the oil and cleaned the windshield to! Had to ask, but some would check the air in the tires.

LOL! Some flamer named cyclespeed just PM'd me to make a snide remark because I accidentally used "to" instead of "too." The grammar police are alive and well!

Being a General Motors product, I'm surprised it started at all.

My question is did the owner get to use the $20 to help fill his tank? Only fair after all.

I recall a car we had where the gas cap was behind the spring loaded license plate.

I'm not a GM fanboy but I fail to comprehend your statement. Did you have a bad GM product? I'm sure you're not the only person that has happened to but, I've had very good luck with GM products. My current truck is a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD. The truck had 28,000 miles on it when I bought it, it has over 200,000 now and still runs as good as the day I bought it. My only problem with the truck is its engine, a 6 liter gasoline engine, is not big enough for a heavy duty truck, but that never stopped me from towing a 30 foot travel trailer. I used it just today to drive 150 miles to pick up some furniture. It does sit a lot this time of year. I only use it when I need a truck. I climbed into it this morning, turned the key and like always, the engine fired up immediately. It averaged around 15 mpg when I purchased it and it averages around 15 mpg now. I've only been stuck with it in snow once and I actually got it stuck on purpose. I wanted to find do out how deep of snow I could drive it in before it got stuck. I found out. Good thing I had a shovel with me.
My car is a 2017 Chevy hatchback. It's actually a really nice car. I got it with the Bose sound system, heated leather seats and steering wheel and a bunch of other neat options. The car runs great, drives great, rides great and sounds great. You don't get much of a BMW for 30 thousand dollars but you get one heck of a Chevy. I currently own 2 GM cars and the truck, and a Honda Goldwing GL1800 motorcycle. I bought the 2012 Sonic new, put 45,000 miles on it and gave it to my wife when we traded her 2009 Pontiac G3 in on my 2017 Chevrolet Cruse Premier. The Sonic runs like new and gets great gas mileage and is quite comfortable for a little car.
In the past I've owned GM, Ford, Chrysler, AMC, Toyota, VW and Mazda manufactured cars and trucks. The manufacturer I've owned most is GM and I don't recall any of them ever having problems starting.
