If you decide on the Olympic Peninsula, check road closures, I think the 101 was closed for repairs in some areas.
If you want foliage, WA is not the best place.

Today is much better with some soft breezes out of the northwest. We still have some ash drifting off of the trees today. I have postponed a 15 mile hike to photograph fall colors around a waterfall because sadly, there will be no colors this year. I visited Yellowstone several years after the devastating forest fire they had there. It was pretty desolate--but it has recovered. It takes time...

Sad to hear. I just remember how beautiful the Columbia River gorge was when I was in the Coast Guard many years ago stationed at Swan Island in Portland.
