I have my camera ready for some storm pictures here in Florida
Had to photo document the house contents etc etc for insurance if needed. we will sit it out unless they predict winds for us above 80mph in our area. so will be able to take some shots of the area
otherwise we will head to a dog friendly shelter

Hunker down instead. A dead photographer is just that. No interest in corpses, sorry.
oh yea we will hunker for sure. final preps tomorrow, dogs papers etc, and getting the cars inside and refills on meds and any food items that will keep well
We are hunkered down in Miami waiting with serious dread. But my cameras are charged and ready if there is an opportunity for any remarkable shots.
No doubt, there will be extensive damage to shoot on Monday morning.

You're nuts too. They are putting Miami right in the middle of it according to 20 minutes ago by meteorologists.

In reality what choices do we have but to "set it out".... the cruse lines could have loaded them selves full and gone out to see where the ships and people will be safe.. instead they dump them at port then ran.
Interstates are jammed gas is on empty at stations. Water shelves are empty as are the canned veggies at WMrt.
Since the 1980 structures are by code required to withstand 200mph sustained for 24 hrs. [if codes followed] Be sure to watch the old Bogart Movie... Key Largo .... we learned to be aware of NYC crooks who come to FL!! hummm...

My son just lived through the wrath of Irma on St John, USVI. He survived, but is shaken. Devastation is awful, not a leaf on a tree...if the tree is standing. Saw a description of the Coral Bay area on the east end of St. John - "Devastation is complete." You folks in lower Florida that are having to wait it out, you are being prayed for.

I'm here in Deland and will be doing the same. Have spent all week securing and moving boats-I'm in the yacht maintenance biz. Today we'll finish with the boats, and tomorrow I'll prep the house. Today I'll be documenting the marinas and how everything has been secured. I'm hoping this high pressure ridge will start to weaken and allow this storm to shift east. Time will tell.

The new path of this storm reminds me of hurricane Donna. That was back in the 60s and did major damage. I would also suggest you get to a shelter now, not later as they will fill up quicker than anyone would believe.

Also make sure every battery is fully charged, you may be out of electricity and make sure you have enough drinking water also water used to fill the toilet tank. All of the items needed after the storm that may disrupt your life for weeks. Good luck for those who attempt to stay in the path of Irma.

Pretty much, shelters are our last resort with 2 dogs. we just remodeled the house, but everything has insurance, those poor folks on the islands , many of which had none :(. Stores are closing, Target stors close today at 2pm, i expect other chains will follow, but I am sure Wallyworld will remain open lol. today I pack personal items, documents, and do laundry. I need to have clean underwear in case I'm in an accident.
