We were very excited to see the male lions a number of times while in Africa. These were taken early one morning as the sun was coming up and this big guy was having breakfast. he didn't seem to mind us watching. In the last photo you can see how close to the vehicles full of people they actually come. The guides told us to just sit very still, as it is the movement they notice--so we sat still with just our shutter finger clicking away!

Beautiful shots, but don't think I would want to be that close to them.

Wow - these are so impressive. I love the big guy licking his chops! The last shot is almost unbelievable - you could title it "Lions in a Traffic Jam." Thanks for sharing these.

I think you need to adjust your WB.

The last photo was undoubtedly shot with a long telephoto, so the apparent distance between two distant things (lions and cars) is highly compressed.

Amazing shots. Knowing they'd already been well fed, I wouldn't worry about them being this close.

yes it is somewhat compressed as I shot it at 300mm but they really were that close---at times we felt we could reach out and touch them!

I went to Africa in 1973 (film cameras and lots of lenses). We would park close to them, and some would come over to the vehicle and lie in its shade. You could (should you be so stupid) reach down and pet them.. Our guide had to tell us to keep our arms inside the vehicle (it sounded ridiculous that he had to tell us that, but we all know people who don't think). He told us the story of a lady tourist who went for a walk by the river at night, and was killed by a leopard. It takes all kinds.

our guide told us of one client who insisted on taking a walk they warned him--he didn't listen and never came back
we were only allowed to walk from our tents to the eating area and into the vehicles
one afternoon two elephants walked through camp right behind the guides tent and the workers saw females and cubs walk past my tent while we were out for the afternoon
