Get Nikon, you get what you pay for.

Don't cheap out on your vertical grip, if it fails or damages your camera you may be SOL when it comes to getting it repaired, it wouldn't be covered under your warranty if you still have one.

I got one not Nikon, on ebay for my 7100. I have not been disappointed by it one bit and it preforms great. Not all of us have deep pockets full of expendable cash. Besides most of what you are paying for is the Nikon name.

Also have a third party grip on my d3200 also have never had problems with it over 5 years. Don't get hung up too much on brand names. Nikon makes a ton of profit on all the extras it sells.

Personally, third party grips are crap. Scour Ebay for a used item; I saw offers ranging from $149 to $153.

I had a $33 Neewer on my D610 - no problems at all.

I use vertical/battery grips on all my DSLRs.

I won't buy anything other than OEM. More expensive... yes. But also far more reliable.

I agree Third party grips are lame, in one case it screwed up the connector on my camera

Of course, there will be varying opinions, but after shelling out buckets of cash on a new camera and four really fine lenses, tripod, filters etc, I opted for the one at Adorama for very little money: Green Extreme= $50. It has functioned flawlessly, thus far. It never comes off my camera, thus minimizing the damage to the connector. The thing I like best is that I have gotten in the habit of leaving the battery out of the camera and only using the one in the grip. That way, I don't have to take the grip off to change the battery in the camera. YMMV. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Agree.....my d7100 has a "Nixxel" battery pack on it, my now gone d90 and d3100 had "Neewer" packs on them . Never, ever any problems under any circumstances. If I were still shooting pro I would opt for the Nikon versions but not for just plinking around now. I'd rather spend money on a fun used lens!

I had a Nikon grip on my D300. now I use a Neewer grip on my D7200. except for the much better build, they function the same. 200.00 difference in price. I can replace it at least five times and still come out ahead.
