Lee, you have offered a subject that has so many answers that it is impossible to answer.
We are humans with many views and quirks. All are valid.
This is a good place to ask this question. You will get more answers than you can handle. Good Luck.

Aside from commercial photography why do people take pictures? What do they do with them?
Simple. It does what Mother Nature cannot do. Freezes time! Stops time! Incredible, isn't it?

Just because. Why do people hit a little white ball around acres of green grass?

Yep...and there is a challenge involved.
I agree with this list. I do it for all these reasons myself but if I were ranking in importance I would change the order. I would leave the last one in there as last but I am a guy after all.

You take a photo to capture a moment in time. It will be a wonderful remembrance in years to come.
Couldn't have said it better myself!
I love to use my cameras to share moments with others. I do a lot of events and give the results to folk who attended. Small way of saying thanks to people who have entered my life in some way or other.

Very all-inclusive reasons to take photos -- didn't think of "porn" though-LOL

Where did he admit anything? The question was: Why Do People Take Pictures? Not, Why do you as an individual take pictures?
A late and personal friend, special effects/make up man Leo Lotito Jr., influenced me to take up photography simply by something he said... "The film media is powerful. It freezes things in time. Things that either make us happy, sad, thought provoking, driven to action or reflective thought. We can use the media to make a statement that will last generations." RIP Leo.

I'm glad to hear your reply Haydon. Writing is much more difficult than learning how to take a picture with a camera. Mr. Lee should of realized that. It would of been better if he arranged his written words towards adult understanding not towards a child. That's way I wrote what I did; it is not an inaccurate assumption. CIAO, AP
HI. The question is not about me but about all my fellow photographers. We learn so much from each other when we share personal views about who we are.

I believe that was a joke. Lighten up snow flake.

Why do people ask "why do people take pictures?" :)
I want to know about other photographers. What interests them why they find photography satisfying. I shoot for a living in that. I earn a living shooting what others want. I don't go out into the woods to photograph water falls, wild life or scenery. Im usually in a studio setting. I guess to answer your question is to say I am interested in what other photographers think and do. Its a community with all kinds of neighbors.
