Don't expect a huge drop — it's still a great camera.

Some folks, even those that have plenty, find it painful to part with money. They must think they can take it with them. And, just like 'some' of those who just can't afford it, believe nobody should have something they don't have. It takes all kinds of busy bodies.

Bah drink less coffee, beers and if you smoke quit. THEN the 810 is really affordable.

To make this more grammatically correct you need a comma immediately after the word 'smoke'. Cheers !!

What have you be using?? Has your life been in the doldrums because you do not have a D810?? How will your life be improved by having a D810? Can you amortize the cost as a business expense? What is your audience? If you take bad pictures with your current camera will this addition inspire to take better pictures?
Some of the pictures taken with cell phones would indicate for the average Joe or Jane you really don't need to spend that kind of money to take some very nice pictures.

Seriously? I don't understand why some people feel the need to get on their high horse when someone wants to purchase a new camera. Why even comment? It shouldn't bother you in the least. It is not your money. It has nothing to do with you, your life, or your ability to take pictures. If the guy wants to purchase a new camera, let him.

Don't expect a major drop in D810 pricing for a long time. It is not being discontinued and the D850 is completely sold out before any units are shipped.

So, when would be the best time to buy a Nikon D810 when the D850 is being released in a few day's? All things equal, I would prefer the D850, but value is very important being retired.

I think you are confused. There is a world of difference between "value" and price.

I would gladly swap out my D750 for an D810. But I am trading in my D7000 and the 3 DX lenses for a Fujifilm X-T2 and a Fuji 23mm F/2 lens.
For now I am keeping my D750 but may trade/sell the 750 for an 810.

Getting up in the morning is the only justification I need for whatever I do the rest of the day. And, I certainly wouldn't expect a bunch of strangers to question it. Just sayin'.

At this point, I have no need to justify anything I do to anyone--except the wife.

I was in the market for a Canon 7D. But on a fixed income, I didn't want to spend the $1600.00. I waited until the 7D Mark II came out and was able to get a new 7D left over from B&H for $750.00. Sometimes pays off not to have to have the latest greatest. I'm very happy with my purchase.
