Liberals brought slavery to the Colonies, and Liberals continue to keep minorities in bondage, why they do not see and understand that is beyond me!

I too am a Vietnam combat vet, a couple of years after your service to this great country. I also bleed Red-White and Blue and believe all these liberals are destroying this country from within. All this hatred needs to stop. I don't profess to know the answer but if something isn't done soon this country will never be the same.
Thank you for your service Tet68survivor.

Looks like a great patriotic place to shop. If it hurts your stupid feelings then tough. Go to a snowflake safe zone and cry with the rest of your stupid UHH liberal idiots.

I wasn't going to the Fair, but I am now, just to buy a Flag!

These are people who want this great country of ours destroyed. It is ridiculous to tear down any of these things. They are a reminder of our long history of why and how we became such a great country. Tearing them down takes away the things we did right and WRONG. But taking them down does not change that history. Let them stay so we can see and understand what was right and wrong about our history!

While I am a moderately liberal voter, I completely agree. A statue of Robert E. Lee commerated a great general and human being; it doesn't stand as a tribute to slavery or racism. What are we going to do next, start eliminating whole chapters of American history books because it might be misinterpreted? If there was a statue of slaves on an auction block, yes; tear it down but don't try change recorded history. Seems to me that was a Nazi tactic.

I don't think this is a liberal/conservative issue. Were there flags from any other former enemies of the USA for sale?

Bravo Jerry, well said.

As former air Force Officer who took an oath to defend the Constitution of The United States against all enemies foreign and DOMESTIC, it is necessary to remind some people that the Confederate Flag and its defenders represent an act of TREASON and should be labeled as such. Statues of Robert E. Lee and other Confederate soldiers and politicians could be preserved as long as they are labeled for what they were historically---TRAITORS!

To Gronka. I was also in the service.

Charles Barkly former NBA player who is Black says "“I’m 54 years old. I’ve never thought about those statues a day in my life. I think if you ask most black people to be honest, they ain’t thought a day in their life about those stupid statues. What we as black people need to do: we need to worry about getting our education, we need to stop killing each other, we need to try to find a way to have more economic opportunity and things like that. [...] I’m wasting my time and energy screaming at a neo-Nazi or [saying] ‘Man, you’ve got to take this statue down.’”

As to "traitors" I choose to let God be the one who Judges people. Life os so much simpler that way. Thanks for your service.

I don't think anybody is trying to rewrite history and I don't think this whole statue removal thing is about slavery. As we all know, many of the Founders and Framers were slave owners. This is about not glorifying people who committed treason against the United States. They took up arms against this country and regardless of their motivation, that is treason as defined by our constitution. As has already been pointed out, should we have statues of Benedict Arnold in town squares or other places of honor? If not him, why them? Like Arnold, I think statues of Lee, Jackson, Davis and other traitors should be in museums and their actions studied so we don't make the same mistakes again.

Anyone want to bet against this ending up in The Attic?

It would appear to be ironic that many of those "offended" by the mere sight of a Confederate flag are quick to defend others' rights to wear t-shirts with slogans that are offensive to a large part of our citizenry (e.g., "Kill Cops", "F_CK YOU!") I say "appear" because there is a hard core that have other motives.

Another irony: all the northerners that move to the land where those statues are.

I am probably going to get a lot of flack for this, but, we live in a free country and should be able to express ourselves freely, as long as our expressions do not cause bodily harm to anyone. When we speak or display a controversial point of view, I realize that someone is going to get their feelings hurt, but we have the right to do so. The news media, the government, and many groups do this in one way or another each and every day, but as long as they are catering to those that are in the minority, it is overlooked. If we would each mind our own business and live our lives peacefully, we would stop a great deal of hatred in this country, and possibly in this world. I may not agree with publicly displaying controversy, but, I do agree that it is the right of each individual to do so.

I agree with your position on free speech; however, I would add that governments should not have the same latitude because they represent all kinds of people.
