LensRentals recommends turning off VR, IS, OS (or whatever) when traveling with a lens.
"Lenses have multiple failure points, including their autofocus systems and image stabilization. Of the two, LensRentals sees image stabilization failing more than autofocus. You should always turn off image stabilization on your lens before you travel so as to lock floating lens elements in place and minimize the chances of them being jostled and damaged en-route."

Never thought of that thanks
Thank you for sharing...great info!
Interesting. Didn't know it locked the lens.
"Whatever side of the argument you're on, it's hard to argue with erring on the side of caution. Lock it up."
Very good information. I'd never heard that before. I'll try and remember to do that when I take my lenses out.

Ok stupid follow up question; I assume this would not apply to lenses that are not mounted on a camera body, as there would be no power available to them. Wouldn't turning the camera power switch to off accomplish the same thing for a VR lens that was mounted on the camera?
Thanks very much Jerry , makes sense , never realised that .
I don 't use VR, so I guess I am good to go.
That is a great tip, and one I would have never thought of! Some lenses don't permit this, for example shorter focal length lenses, is there a way to turn it off on them, perhaps a camera menu setting?
Wow, didn't know that. Thanks for sharing.
Although this is the first time I see that I will take precautions the next time I travel.
Not even lens companies warn us of that.
