I love this group. Have been reading for several months and finally decided it was time to step up to the plate. I am a child in the photography world. I love to take pix, but do it purely for fun. I will be taking a long over due honeymoon on Kauai in December, so I graduated from my old Canon Rebel X and a Kodak point and shoot to a Canon T3. I already have a 70-300mm lense.

I only have one question for now, most are answered through others posts, Should I buy several memory cards to take with or is downloading to the laptop good enough?

Thanks Y'all

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your upcoming honeymoon!

I tend to be very conservative when it comes to preserving data. To that end, I have purchased many memory cards for my upcoming "once in a life time" trip. But I also plan on copying most to a laptop also. My rationalization: I don't want any of my memories to have a single point of failure. So, if someone pilfers the laptop, at least I'll have the memory cards. Likewise if someone pilfers my camera gear, the laptop will have most of the data. (haven't gone so far as to set up an online repository yet, but that'd be a valid alternative to either the extra cards or the computer, except you need a computer to do the uploading)

I use an external hard drive on trips. Every night download the cards to the computer and the hard drive as a backup.
Enjoy your trip!!

Thanks to everyone.

I plan to by several 8 or 16 meg cards and also copy over to the laptop everyday.

Welcome and congratulations and hope you have a great honeymoon. I would take the laptop or iPad so you can download and view the pictures with your wife on a bigger screen. Afterall, you'll be spending a lot of time just lying in bed or around the pool!
