Traveled to Houston for several days, and after trying out my new camera features and my techniques (learned from your postings and a few books) I offer some photos. These are are a cluster of mushrooms I happened upon in the waterfall wall park.

Sorry, I'm having trouble posting the pictures. I'll keep trying. There's something I'm missing in the instructions.

Is there a size limit? The Pic is almost 29 GB. I get a "Timed Out" message.
You might be sending a raw file. Try sending it in a Jpeg format, the file size would be smaller and might do the trick.
I received everything .., well .., 1 shot of some mushrooms on the forest floor ..., but then it is hard to evaluate after seeing my brother's Samsung 8+ shots ...your shot could have been taken by the Samsung 8+ or a D-80 ..
the shots looks fairly good .., low light .., shadows ,... so I would say you are off to a good start ..will need a 1/2 dzn in diff lighting and etc to evaluate ..r

Thanks Dr. N. I'm having a bit of difficulty with my smaller (10 gb) Jpegs and will try smaller files with more specific questions later in the day (the wife calls, lol).
Pretty good, but may be a little underexposed. Might do better if you use Evaluative Metering, instead of "old school" Center Weighted.
I'd get closer and down lower, for shots of mushrooms. The 80D's articulated LCD Touchscreen should be helpful for that sort of thing.
Not sure how close focusing your lens is, but if shot closer, might need to use a smaller f-stop... f/7.1 may not give enough depth of field. Maybe f/11.
All these observations are related to technique... not the camera itself, which appears to be working fine.

This is an outside corridor with varied lighting. It seemed like a good shot through the lens, but on the computer it seems blah. How could I have made this pop a little more without Post process.
That's a nice scene - with the dark forest and some light on the mushrooms. Maybe a little more light on them would be good.

Thanks jerryc41, I think that I need to adjust my eye in the selection of settings because I thought the pic would be a tad brighter but seeing this on my computer screen is a bit different than through the camera lense. I'll try to post another pic but I am having difficulty doing it because my computer times out often, even with smaller files. Here goes...

Thanks Jules. I thought the perspective and lighting was a bit better in this shot than the first submission above. Capturing scenes is a lot of fun but convincing my wife that I reeeely needed this camera over the one I had wasn't as much fun until she saw some of my photos, then she said, "Well, maybe it's OK."
I really like this, Glen! Welcome to the Hog and have fun shooting!

sailorsmom: Thanks for the reply and I'm glad you liked this. As I pick up hints from those on UHH I see my pics in a whole different light (pun intended).
