Hopefully they will post them in the Gallery where they belong.

Maybe a temporary forum called eclipse photos so that those who like to look at the gallery don't have to wade through 100's of eclipse topics to see something else.

Despite the seemingly constant threads here, and now on our TV even though we're several hundred mile from "totality", I just hope that no one burns out a retina!!

Much better a burned out sensor than a burned out retina.

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows. AKA, Lamont Cranston.

Great photography advice for Eclipse Day, gentlemen.

I almost ordered a sheet of filter material for the eclipse. But then I reconsidered. There will be millions of public domain images taken with far better equipment by far better photographers than me. I was not going to take the ultimate photograph of this occurance. In 1970, I was in NYC for the March 7 total eclipse. So I've had the experience. I even got some great photos but not as good as the thousands of professionals with astronomic training. This is one where "I'll buy the postcard."

I do hope some of you intrepid explorers will post your work here. Maybe we should have a separate arena, just for pix of the eclipse.

You are smart. You'll probably just be disappointed with your shot anyway since the location is probably the most important for a good shot. If you just take a picture of the eclipse with nothing in the foreground, it will be boring.

I'll see the short news clips and wait for some of the images to show up here and elsewhere and keep my eyes in tact.

On the local news last night, they announced that a local state park is having an "eclipse party". They weren't clear on whether special "glasses" would be available, but since our coverage will be something like 90%, that might be a good opportunity for me to photograph observers.

Agreed, I'm a burnt out and broken pensioner who was reluctant to spend anything on special filters, long lenses, travel etc. But I will start shopping for solar filters after Aug 22 when things should be back to normal price or ebay floods with used filters. 👽👾

I'm going to travel the 12 hours to Oregon to see the eclipse and all I'm taking is a LAWN CHAIR!!!
Don't get me wrong, I will do photography all the way up and some of the way back.
I was south of La Paz, Baja for the 7 minute eclipse of 91 and if was a rewarding experience without a camera!
I'll be there to experience to solar wind, the fleeting shadow, the diamond ring and seeing the planets come out.
Nat Geo would do a better job than I will anyway!

I hope you will post your experience here for those of us who weren't there. I could not find lodging from Oregon to the east coast and I'm too old to hike and dry camp. Enjoy your trip.

I have viewed one total eclipse. I also will not photograph this one. Images of an eclipse seem to br pretty boring to me.

I think the most effective approach to capturing the experience of the eclipse is by video, not with still photography. The full experience and thrill is witnessing the lead up to total eclipse, achieving total eclipse, then slowly exiting total eclipse. Of course a time-lapse sequence of still images can capture this, but let's be honest - video can do it so much better.

Time lapse photography is a good alternative - maybe create a montage of multiple stacked images....easy to do with digital cameras and PP.

Yes, don't burn out your camera and most importantly not your eyes....many think regular sunglasses or low # ND filters are enough... (NOT!)

B&H doesn't sell replacement eyeballs. :)

Unfortunately I guess this also means to be very wary of "Great Deals" on used camera equipment, since I'm sure there will be some.
