I have created a fake book down thru the years of pop, jazz, and church hymns. I would like to put them on a tablet for easy reading and to bring them up on command. Is there a way to do this and what sort of equipment do I need? I am from the typewriter world and trying to learn new ways. I am surprised that I am able to send this. I was sitting in my Doctors waiting room today and every single person there had some kind of device with fingers flying.

What's a 'fake book?'

What format are your items in? You say you're from the 'typewriter world,' are they typed documents on paper?

You could try scanning typed documents as PDF files, at a good resolution - maybe 300dpi, and transferring the files to your tablet. You may need an appropriate PDF viewer on your tablet. Maybe scan as JPG files & view as photos.

Good luck

They won't be easy reading on a tablet, it's too small. (if you mean to use it at a gig or something)

But to answer your question, scan each page into a computer and compile them into a PDF file. Then send that file to your tablet and open in the appropriate application.

Buy a flat bed scanner and use it.

For music, you have to first load on iTunes on your computer and then sync with the tablet, assuming you have Apple devices. I'm sure other systems are similar. Look for a local computer club (school or community, not store) and they will help you.

You get up early--right. I figured a scanner but just had to make sure. Now how to hook it up to my Mac. Will look into it today. Perhaps a visit to Best Buy.

I would be easy enough to copy a PDF file to your tablet. I know some people who have done this, and they were dissatisfied with the small size of the notes on the screen.

Thanks Jerry. I kinda figured that but I thought also that perhaps there was a way to enlarge.

The iPad Air is about 6.5 x 9.5 in and font size can be controlled. I use mine for reading books, magazines, newspapers, even UHH.

You can put less of the song on each page, but then you'd have to change pages more often. You can also use two fingers to enlarge the image on the screen, but that detracts from your playing. I've seen small "travel" versions of fake books, but the pages are too small to read easily. Small is small.

The OP is referring to sheet music, not song files.

Jerry the only thing that detracts is my playing.

You did not say how large your tablet is. 8" 10"? In any case if you scan the text to a PDF file, you should hold the tablet in Landscape direction (longest sides on top and bottom) to make the text as wide as possible.
