I have 2 K 1000 and 2 Ricoh KR 5. The K 1000 was my 1st SLR camera and I got a lot of nice images with it.
I also have 3 or 4 Minolta AF 35mm SLRs and a Nikon and some other ones.
I still have some 35mm film I need to shoot.
will
If you're not looking to recoup some of your purchase money, contact your local high school and see if they will accept it as a donation. As people already noted, schools use the old film cameras to teach their students photography.
At the time, the K1000 was the most popular camera in America because it was well built and it was the "cheapest" SLR in the USA. "Cheap" does not always equate to poorly made.

Yes, and something to use it with!
I recently picked up a K1000 on fleabay posted by KEH. It had a desilvered prism which was never mentioned in the listing. Rather than sending it back, I had Eric Henderson, the Pentax repair Guru, do a CLA and install a good prism; total cost including his shipping was $70. It is like a new camera. I also ended up getting a Pentax LX, their top of the line pro film camera that was CLAed by him in 2015 from a Pentax Forum member for $300. I've been shooting B&W film lately for a change of pace. I also picked up a couple of Pentax A series manual lenses that I can use on both film cameras and my DSLR (w/manual focus and auto aperture).
K1000s are great old cameras. I've got a pair of them in my camera collection, along with four or five other slightly newer Pentaxes.
My favorite K1000 is the chrome one clad in brown leatherette. Made for a really classy looking camera.
The problem with vintage Pentax cameras is finding lenses for them.... aside from the ubiquitous 50mm. The reason is that they're still usable on modern DSLRs, are sought after and have retained fairly high values.
I have a Honeywell spotmatic with 35mm, 50 mm 1.4, and a vivitar 400 mm that I just love. Just got impatient waiting for film so went digital. :(

"Honeywell Spotmatic" was "Asahi Spotmatic" {Asahi was company which spawned Pentax brand} relabeled for sales in US, which emotionally was still recovering from World War II.

So, you're selling a pair of them???

Yes! One is in perfect condition. The other is working but has a clump of mirror foam (I think) in the viewfinder. It's above the focusing screen so I can't clean it. I don't want to take it apart. Also I throw in a 50mm f/2.0 lens that has a sticky focusing ring. I am selling the 2 bodies.

Well, let us know more once you do post it. There does seem to be interest here, which wouldn't do you any good if nobody knows.

One of my K1000 has the brown leatherette. But it has the regular black body, not chrome.
