I still have my K1000...my first real camera. I remember when I went digital...I wanted a digital version of that camera. What was I thinking? That would be like driving a old Model A in today's Houston traffic.

Then you would love the Fuji X-T2

Yep sure would... $1500 + lenses..... guess it is not that expensive in todays world.... I learned to hate automatic and programmable with the lusted for Minolta i7000 That sucker thought it knew more than me!! I admit I like modern programmable but for .. like .... flowers... I use a manual preset... always the same and my oatmeal cookies are consistantly good. Will change in the future, just ordered a Highspeed Sync Flash. New world.

I still have my K1000 (AOCo) and my first DSLR was a K50 that I passed on to my husband as I worked up the camera ladder. They are still great cameras.

Here is an interesting article about the K1000.

Just the other day at a local brewpub we ran into a kid (20-something, I guess) with a genuine K-1000, fixed 'standard' lens. I took the group's picture and it was fun not having auto-focus and having to actually make adjustments based on a light meter! Point is, film is back (to some extent), retro cameras have some value and a conversation with the folks at the local camera shop confirms: they are developing more and more film all the time. Find a buyer (or a good donation point - camera club, community college photo class, like that). Makes me wish I hadn't sold my old Minolta gear so cheap at a yard sale several years back...

I had a similar incident over a year ago. A 20-something fellow and his girlfriends were standing next to me at an indoor aquarium. I glanced at this camera. And then I said surprised, "is that a Canon AE-1?". "You are shooting film!" I'm not sure what film he was using, 100, 200, 400 ISO, but poor guy. It was so dark in there that I was struggling with my digital camera and 50mm f/1.7 lens 1/20 s at some 1,600 ISO. As it turned out for me that experiment using that lens against a plastic tank was a bust, I had to stand back away from the tank to focus on the Jellyfish. I got better shots with my SmartPhone. Next time, back using to the WA 19mm or 28mm (that are not really wide on my APS-C Camera). Sounds like the young guy was taking a photo class and they wanted them to experience film.

I still have a gigantic camera bag filled with Minolta bodies, lenses, flashes, and every accessory known to man.
Cost thousands. I'm saving it until the revolution comes. >Alan

I have one, as well as a Canon A-1, a Pentax 67, a Nikon N8008S, a Mamiya RB-67 Pro, and a Mamiya C-330...all the film systems I need. Try advertising the K-1000 for sale, online, or donate it to a local camera club.

Did no one notice back on page 1 that the OP listed it on eBay, and lamiaceae purchased it??

Each time I retire a camera, I purchase a new bag for the new camera, then I put the retired camera away in its bag in case I need to re-activate it; I don't have many bags in my closet, though, because several cameras died before I got around to retiring them.

Call your local college and talk to the chairman of the Art Dept. colleges frequently teach intro to photography using film cameras, and the K1000 is a great learning tool but hard to find.

Yes, when first my girlfriend and then I took photo classes (1977-80) at a Community College (Jr. College) in Pasadena, CA, we had Pentax Spotmatics, Pentax K1000s, Rolleicord TLRs, and several brands of 4x5" View Cameras.

They are hard to find? I see a lot of them on eBay, even the pricier and nicer K1000SE. In great condition, some for more than their new prices!

That is about all you can do with old film equipment that is not sell worthy. Donate it. I have two 4x5" Enlargers and no one wants to buy them, they only expect freebees. I only want to keep one.

Yup! I want to replace a crappy Chinese assembled late (Hoya?) Pentax K1000 with a de-silvering cheap prism with an early Japanese Asahi Pentax. From what I can tell the OP has a real Japanese Japanese (tagged "Asahi Optical Co.") camera like my other old film Pentax cameras. And the two lenses seem amusing.

I wasn't aware of that problem with later K1000's. Thanx for the warning!

Old times. I believe I paid $165 for my first K1000....

I have seven film cameras--and not buying more unless it's a early range finder made in Tokyo by Nippon Kogaku with the Nikkor-H lense
