My Trip To Alaska 5 Brooks Falls Misc.
While Brooks Falls was not the only stop on my Alaska trip, it was the most exciting; I edited this group of photos first ... for the same reason. The photos posted today are some miscellaneous ones - with commentary. For instance, in the second photo the man has done something the park rangers had said never to do - Do you see what? Next year Brooks Falls will not be renting out cabins to tour groups; instead there will be a lottery you will have to enter. The story I got was because it is a national park, everyone should have a shot at staying overnight and by dealing with tour operators too many bunks were being used by tours leaving precious few for individuals. I believe the lodge only accommodates 48 people. I will be editing my Denali photos next. Thank you for you kind comments. For those who missed my mentioning the live bear cam at Brooks Falls, I leave you with this link

Nice set Howard, and that is way to close to a bear for me.
My only guess on the he is standing to close to some thich vegitation into which he cannot see.
How close was I?
Great pictures Howard. Brooks Falls is a wonderful place. I've heard about it and will now have to put them on my bucket list. Mahalo for sharing.
Perhaps he shouldn't have his backpack on the ground?

Never heard that one, why?
You might have to leave the area quickly and forget to pick it up. If there was food in the pack (like a lunch), the bear will associate the pack with food and the next time it sees a pack (like on a hiker's back) it might go for the pack. The idea is to have no actual contact with the bears either directly or indirectly. We were not permitted to have any food outside of our cabins. No eating or drinking beyond the deck of the main lodge; I couldn't be drinking a can of soda while walking to my cabin; finish the soda, then walk to the cabin. These rules were strictly enforced by the park rangers.
I enjoyed your pictures Howard. Looks like a nice place to visit.
