Just found out I will be going to Iceland with my daughter and her family in two weeks. They are renting a house and doing day trips while I will be roaming with my camera. I have never been to Iceland and am looking for advice on where to shoot, what to wear, anything and everything. Have not been on a plane since I retired in 2010. I assume the rules for carry on are essentially the same. You folks have always been so helpful, I thank you in advance for all and any advice.

I was going to post today as I have just also confirmed that I will be going to Iceland. But my trip is scheduled for November as we are hoping to be there at a time the northern lights are active. Please send back reports of your trip. What was interesting, what was not, did you go to the Blue Lagoon and swim in the waters? good luck and have a great time.

Take in all the gorgeous waterfalls you can. Vik has a great beach to walk and lots of lava formations. Plan for temps anywhere from the 50's to the 70's.
Sun never sets; it gets to be "dusk" around 3:00 AM. Gorgeous time for catching the golden hour light. During the day, be sure to visit Jokulsarlon and
the black sand beach there.

Rules are changing for security check-in in Sept; some airports are doing it now. All electronics bigger than a cell phone have to be placed in a bin in the
open. This includes cameras, flash, lenses, notebooks, etc.

Have a blast.

Take a 1 day tour of Landmanulagar. Early astronauts to the moon trained there. Absolutely fascinating! Exhausting day but worth it.

Dress in layers with rain gear handy, have sturdy hiking boots for walking over lava rock, bring lots of $$$ as things are expensive, don't forget sun screen, enjoy the local brews - especially stouts & porters if that's to your liking, visit Dettifoss- Europe's most powerful waterfall and Gulfoss- Icelands most famous waterfall and bring rain gear for yourself & your camera if you want to get close to the falls. If you care to snorkel or dive between two continents then Silfra fisher is the place. A good whale watching and bird spotting boat leaves from Husivik harbor (survival suits provided onboard). Bring longest glass you can for the many bird shot opportunities.
If offered the national taste treat, fermented shark, be aware it tastes like rotten fish soaked in ammonia.
Lastly, be prepared for hours long check in process at KEF airport when you depart this magically beautiful country

You have gotten good advice so far. I've been there twice and really liked Iceland. My wife and I "did" the Blue Lagoon and would recommend it. Seemed a bit expensive, but it was a unique experience.

First, what part of the country will you be staying in?
Second, check the web in your area. Dig into sights within easy reach.
