Gary - if you view your album in FB, there's an <edit> button that displays the individual images. You can edit the captions at that point or hover your mouse over the upper right hand corner of an individual image. A menu will become available when a down arrow is displayed in the image and "Delete this photo" is an option. That <edit> button also then exposes a button for <add photos / videos>. This FB album Chicago Air & Water 2016 shows how close you can get at 1000mm in Chicago, many with cropping of the image. As you experienced, you can also see how you can be 'too close' and not all the planes fit in the frame. (The album link is 'public' so you're not prompted to sign-in. Just click a thumbnail in the initial display to display an image full-screen on your computer.)

Your Oshkosh images are all looking good. I will suggest on some of the images, you look at a tool that can clean the noise out of the blue sky. After editing 5000+ images from a weekend at an airshow to say maybe 300 finals, I can run the edited results through Topaz DeNoise in batch mode. But, even the native tool in Lightroom can clean out the 'specs' in the sky of say your Blue Angels image discussed for cropping in another post.

The Cubs have a weekend rubber match against the Nats this afternoon. I live down the street from Wrigley and just got back from the nearby Jewel where the store is covered with Cubs balloons and paraphernalia. Speaking of the zoo, I have an extra day on my 500L rental to spend a day at the zoo before send back.

Nice pics, too. I see some of the same acts (Sean D. Tucker, etc.) but you had the T-birds. They were at the Scott AFB 100th anniversary airshow they had in June (another of my albums) although there are only a fraction of the pics...I could probably add more.

Lens Rentals is a reputable company. They claim that they go through each lens and each camera returned to make sure the lens or camera will work to specs with the new renter. I am surprised that after claiming that they go through each lens and camera that you experienced dust in the sensor of the rented camera. They responded nicely offering you a $50 reward for your next rental.
I have rented only once from them. I rented an Olympus Zuiko 12-40 f2.8 Pro and the EVF-4 for my Pen EP-5. As you said, both came well protected and they performed to perfection giving me excellent photographs within my abilities.
I returned both items in due time and to my surprise a few days later I received notification from them that the EVF-4 electronic viewfinder was missing. I could not believe that after I sent both items as I was instructed there was an item missing, specially since I personally delivered the items to a Fedex location in Arizona. To make sure I called the hotel where I stayed and they informed me that I have not left nothing like so in my room, not that I was not sure I have carefully packed both items before sending them back to Lens Rental. After some brief correspondence they wrote off the finder but I did not feel good about it. I cannot explain what in the world happened except that one of their employees misplaced the EVF-4. I bought insurance for both items but I cannot tell if I bought enough to take care of something like that.
I want to rent from them again but that experience left a bitter taste in me. Imagine for a second if the lens was missing. It would have been a mess.
By the way, although it was a bad experience for me I can testify to the excellent customer service and the courtesies I received from them.

Last week (7/24-30) I had my first experience renting anything. I used Lensrentals.com because they and Borrowlenses.com were within a couple $ and several hogs recommended them. I rented a Sony 70-400 G2 - first use of a white lens - and (after seeing a sale and getting it retroactively applied) I added an a77ii so I could compare it to my a77/Tamron 17-50 2.8 that I brought with me. When I got the box from the FedEx office in Oshkosh and brought it back I noticed (I'd previously seen an e-mailed invoice) that in addition to foam on all sides, both the camera body and the lens came in it's own case- like the kind you'd buy at B&H. the camera included one battery and a charger and the lens had a tripod collar. Total for both, including insurance, taxes and shipping, less sale discount, was $215.02. I was very pleased with the performance of each (got some of my best pics ever). Swapping lenses and bodies, each seemed to give me faster focus and/or sharper images. When I got back and went over my pics (downloaded them nightly and posted some here) with a more critical eye I saw that there was a sensor smudge in the upper right corner of each pic, though usually easily croppable or erasable in PSE. After notifying LR of the issue they thanked me and issued a $50 credit towards my account :). I guess I need to rent again from them so I don't waste it!

I used BorrowLenses once when I needed an extreme wide angle. Extremely professional service. I give them 5 stars.

My experience with Lens Rental was totally awesome. I was thinking about buying a Pentax DFA*70-200 f2.8 lens. So I decided to test it while on vacation in Kauai. They shipped it to my destination resort property (who know me) with the lens in a padded Lowepro case in a well padded Styrofoam lined box. This saved me the space in my camera carry-on Lowepro backpack and also gave me effectively two extra days on location with the lens. After a couple of days of shooting, I had pretty much decided that I wanted to keep the lens. With each equipment rental there is always the option to purchase it for a given price less some amount of the rental. For my transit back to the mainland I now had a shipping container and box for the lens suitable for checked luggage. I know never check expensive camera equipment. So I placed other less expensive, non tempting photo gear into the Lowepro case for checked luggage to make space for the 70-200 f2.8 lens in my carry-on Lowepro backpack and everything arrived safely at home. Lens Rental's customer service representatives over the phone and via e-mail are very friendly and helpful with any questions. I will definitely use them again if I am thinking about needing or testing a specific lens/camera body.

I've used ATS Rentals several times with excellent service and the prices are significantly lower.

Thanks. I just went through Photos and counted how many I took (it may have already subtracted ones I deleted) but it added up to 5,070 over 7 days...and I never even got to the museum or the seaplane base. I still haven't put up the full variety of pics up yet (and probably too many of certain ones). One neat thing was that a guy I picked up, along with his wife on the way up (at O'Hare) bought me a ride on the Bell 47 (M*A*S*H chopper) and took a bunch of pics from that rather challenging aircraft - vibrations galore! Next time (a year or three from now) I'll save up and go on a ride in the B-17 or B-25 or similar (the Mustang is out of my league - one place I saw on the internet was $1,795 for a 30-minute ride!!!!!!!!!!!). Aluminum Overcast (B-17) is $425.

I had a chance twice for a 30 minute ride on a B-17 but it was over $700. $425 is a bargain. Go for it.

Heck, I'd do it. How many people have THAT on their bucket list?

My bucket list is so full I can't add any more. I wish my wallet could keep up with it.

5,070 - planepics, this number presents some challenges on your editorial skills. I've faced similar situations from 2 days in Chicago and 3 days in Cleveland where the same show is presented on consecutive days. It takes multiple critical passes through the pool of images. Anything not in perfect focus is discarded. I also look at composition seeking images that require the least amount of cropping. I also look at the "same" image / plane(s) across multiple days and pick the best. Have fun ...

Actually, it's cheaper than I thought (http://www.eaa.org/en/eaa/flight-experiences/aluminum-overcast-eaa-b-17-bomber-tour/b-17-aluminum-overcast-tour-stops). Every day or two I go through my pics - my mom complains she still hasn't seen my Israel pics from last year - and throw away some. At 12 fps I have lots of them that are virtually identical and some of the same acts performed multiple times over the week but the big bomber day only happened once (B-25s, B-1, B-2, B-52, maybe a couple others). Here's a pic I entered in AvWeb yesterday for POTW (which I won in Sept '11).
