Buy a copy of SpinRite at grc.com, if not pleased, money back guarantee. I have used it for 15 years to maintain and recover hard drives. It also works on solid state drives.

I had the same problem with my WD Passport Drive just recently. Had to take it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy. The drive was corrupted and they were able to get my files, mostly photos from the drive. The cost was $110.00 and a new external drive. Good luck.
