I currently shoot with a Nikon D7200 and am considering either a D750 or D810. I have read lots of reviews of both, so I am not looking for commercial reviews, but rather day to day use. My question is whether anyone has used both, and if so, what is your opinion on them regarding image quality, overall handling, and versatility in actual use, not in testing. Even though I am using a DX camera I own full frame 24-70, 70-200, 85mm, 105mm and 300mm lenses, so lenses are not the issue. My fundamental question is what benefits each would bring--and what limitations or issues would they have. Thanks in advance.

Judging from the lenses you own, I'm going to guess that price isn't going to be the deciding factor. I only own the D810. (I had to choose between the two.) It captures an incredible amount of detail, with the lenses you use being a factor in what you get. Yours would do justice to the camera. The D850 will have more pixels (the number hasn't been announced yet). It remains to be seen how much of a difference this will make. As others have said, new models can have teething problems, so you might want to jump in now with a D810 and then decide whether the features of the new camera are worth it to you. You can always sell it, maybe not for what you paid. I don't think I'm going to bite. My D810 is already better than what I need for my purposes.

The 810 is an amazing camera. You can get great deals on it right now because the 850 will be replacing it, but it looks like it will be about $1500. more then the current price of the 810

Where are you getting your pricing information and what will the MSRP be?

I got my D810 at a year end sale at Nikonusa I had read photographers using a d810 at base Iso 64 and at post Recovery no or little noise in Recovery. This first image is the second image in a bracket of 3 . Before Recovery the second image is after Recovery in post . Maybe this will help your decision.

I'd be curious to know the answer to that as well. This would have to be a show stopping camera for me to even consider replacing my D810 for $4500. I'm not going to pay $1500 for a tilt screen and questionable (at this point) better IQ. I don't need 8K video. In fact, I don't need video. I have a dedicated camcorder that suits me fine.

How large are the files? 20 megabyte limit, though I think I may have exceeded that in the past with multiple pictures. I honestly haven't kept track, so that may not be true.

If you are zipping compressed files like jpegs, then you don't get much reduction in size. They're already compressed.

If you want to share multiple large files, post a link to external storage, like this.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-iHbb3qexVHTWNfdjJoQ2s4bzA

You need a Google (Gmail) account to actually download these pictures, but you can view them without an account and also zoom in to see detail. These are jpegs straight out of the camera and are around 25-27 megabytes apiece, totaling over 300 megabytes.

Three pictures in this group show the kind of detail that the D810 can produce with just a 50mm f/1.4 AF-D lens

0296 Look at the detail in the clock and the weather vane at the top. The picture is a bit underexposed.
0347 Zoom in on the little white dots in the field. They're sheep. You can also clearly see a tractor near the top toward the left that is invisible until you zoom in.
0894 Look at the buildings and RVs (caravans to anyone in the UK) in the distance.

0261, 0287, 0800, and 0920 were taken with a 28-105 AF-D that I've since replaced. They're not quite as sharp but plenty sharp. This is what I mean by what you get out of a D810 is somewhat lens dependent.

I am not zipping them ,its just a term for a closed file .In Photoshop I convert 16 bit files to 8 bits reduce the file to 20 megabytes save as is to a folder as a stupid jpeg and when right clicked on property's it's under 10 megabytes . I have uploaded this image to face book with no problems ..I do not use jpegs except for posting to the web . My images out of ACR are 16 x 24 @300 dpi and around 103 mbs. When I am done most of My images are 16 bit sized 24 x36 or larger and sent to my printer and are 200 to 300 mbps. I have been doing this for awhile for myself and others .I will have go to the computer and do it again I am doing this from a cell phone later . As long as we can only post jpegs there is no way I consider this an original image as store original.Sorry I will try later and for the live of Me I do not know how people post 3 to 5 images in a row I can't get past 1 maybe it's the cell phone...
