I would like to back up my photos at my weddings. Edson used to make a storage device that had a screen to view the pics and vids but they have discontinued them.

I wonder how hard it would be to use my android tablet to backup and view my pics onsite.

Any ideas are welcome.

I tried a few different drive/tablet solutions ( I have a Samsung tablet with a micro SD card slot), and was unhappy with all of them. I am not a fan of a cheap hard drive in a fancy case - when you open the case, you'll find a drive that is likely to fail before the end of the warranty. But while they are working they are great.

I ended up opting for the RavPower WD-03 - $40. It is a mini router with an SD card slot and a USB 2 port. You can use a phone to initiate and monitor the file transfer from the card to a memory stick or other connected USB storage device. I usually travel with a pair of 128 gb memory sticks for redundant backup. The whole package fits in my pocket. I shoot raw and cannot see the pictures anyway, on either my tablet or my phone, so a device that shows pictures doesn't work for me.

Be careful if you use an IOS device - there is at least one reviewer that had problems transferring a large number of files (about 300) from a PNY SD card to a hard drive - I've used my WD-03 with Sandisk cards, and transferred 800-1000 files from a single card (wedding, vacation, a couple of time lapse shoots for several clients, etc) without a hitch. I call into question the knowledge level of the reviewer, since he had issues with IOS.

The surface pro seems to be around $799 if I'm not mistaken. It's a little too pricey. I'd like something that I can slip in my pocket that has a small screen so I can view my pictures after I download them

I'm a little concerned about a used one that may be at the end of its lifecycle. But if it's had light use I would consider it.

How about the WD My Passport, with SD slot?

I have a Toshiba Thrive tablet that i use for this purpose. It has a full size SD slot and a full size USB port, but uses a somewhat clumsy procedure to transfer files as it only reads files from the USB port and stores on the SD card. Therefore, I use a USB card reader and send the files to the tablet to view and then on to a large capacity SD card for storage until I return home. It works, but no as I originally planned - transferring files from the SD card in its slot ot a flash drive in the USB port.

Many people use their laptops. As another poster said, continuous cloud backup helps you get a good night's sleep. >Alan

There is one option for a viewer/storage but the reviews say it's a little clunky. I looked at it but the name escapes me now.

The laptop thing with cloud storage is probably the way to go. I will look that device up again and post a link for others benefit.
