Continuation of how the youth in America are systematically being taught less of the world and more of technology. When was the last time you have had a real conversation with someone, or actually wrote a letter and put a stamp on it?

You are correct, and the cause for this malaise is our liberal education system that has been turning out HS graduates that enter college needing remedial courses for years.

If these so called educators and administrators in our public school systems and universities would put their silly ideologies and politically correct nonsense aside and actually start educating like I received in the 1950's these results, and our populace would be on par intellectually, if not exceeding any anybody in the world.

All one needs do is watch Waters World on the O'Reilly Factor when he interviews college students with basic questions. Dumb and dumber for sure! It would be hilarious, if it wasn't so sad.

there's that "ilk" word again... and if by the cahones you mean the time to waste, then you're correct

..it doesn't do any good to make liberals watch conservative sh*t or visa versa.

I take issue with this post, for instance, it was not so long ago that our public schools introduced sex education and now even 12 year olds know how to screw like Don Juan.

Which is the reason that our President Trump is working on eliminating the Education Dept on the federal level, which will put the responsibility back to the people where it belongs.

This article is proof that there should be at least minimum standards for our education systems nationwide, but those of the politically correct frame if mind will continue to push back with the argument that the federal government has no business telling us what the children of America should be learning.

Even the teaching methods of the early to mid 60's taught the very basics in arithmetic and phonics. Teachers taught a student how to use a dictionary by sounding out a word while searching for it in the dictionary. In elementary math, we were taught how to count with visual aids using blocks of different lengths and colors.

"Elementary my dear Watson!"

The test that was included in the article is eye opening in what it included. Today's educators would be hard pressed to answer many of those questions themselves, never mind teaching their students "to the test" as many are often resorting to.

Ask yourself if the standardized tests that the students take today are doing their job to determine if students are getting a quality education?

When we hear about classes such as the Philosophy of Harry Potter being taught, instead of basic literature what does that tell you?

When classes are added to the curriculum so that athletes have an option at an easy pass, instead of buckling down and actually studying and learning anything beyond the playing field, court, or rink, we are not doing justice to the students of America.

It's sad that in today's age of technology our students aren't using that technology to learn, instead of using it as an excuse to stay away studying.

In high school, we learned to type on both manual and electronic typewriters, while down the hall, the early days of computer coding was being taught. Today, young students are being taught keyboarding skills instead of penmanship. People still need to know how to actually write by hand, especially how to take notes during their classes, or business meetings. How many small businesses still hand write invoices or sales receipts, before they get big enough to computerized their accounting systems? There is still a very large need to know how to write, unless we're going to go back to the days of marking an "X" in place of a signature.

I fully agree! Had a great education back in the day! The kids in college today are scary with their answers, or lack of, on segments like Waters World, etc. I question what they are actually teaching these kids today? Who knows, but it is getting worse and I see no relief in sight! Stupid is as stupid does!

The biggest issue with the fed education dept is that it leaves unelected bureaucrats creating mandates that are applied to every public school in the nation.
They have no idea who the people are, what their needs are, and what may work in some areas of the nation won't necessarily work in others. Every mandate has a cost involved. Right now a mandate is in place that requires all students are required to be in a regular classroom regardless of their ability to learn.
So in the town I live, we have very low functioning kids in regular classrooms with behavior problems. Each of those kids have an aid assigned to assist them. They are not capable of learning what that class offers and act out because they are bored which disrupts the whole class. Multiply that by 2 or 3 per classroom. How are the rest supposed to learn in that situation ??
Who is better at knowing what the kids need than the parents ?? So give the control back to the parents where it belongs. They should decide where to send their kids as opposed to seeing the school as a daycare facility.

Wouldn't it make more sense to use the Department of Education to start raising the standards for education?

Leaving it to the states to control only means that some states will raise standards and others won't.

How is it in our collective best interest to have this disparity?

Twelve year olds should know how to screw like Don Juan. Perhaps we can cut down unwanted pregnancies and VD, and aids.

You think that's a bad thing?

BTW, are you so naive you think 12 year olds don't already know how to screw?

Read Trump's "address" to the Boy Scouts.

(later)
Looks to me, age 12 is just about perfect:

"At what age did you lose your virginity?
Under 12 1%
12-13 8%
14-15 23%
16-18 40%
19-20 13%
21-24 10%
25-30 2%
Never had sex 3%"
