Just wonderful modeling and nice photos. My family have a cottage on Lake Louise (Thumb Lake) near Boyne. I'd love to meet you on my next visit.

I enjoyed these. Your models are first rate. My dad was into model railroading but he did nothing this elaborate.

Wow! I'm impressed with your workmanship. You really have to look closely to tell they aren't real. Great job and great photographs. Cheers.

Very impressive work. I am also into building scale buildings for the S guys and think the time spent at it is very rewarding.

Dave--

Excellent modeling and photography. I am also a model railroader (ATSF in the last few months before AMTRAK).

In particular, you have done an outstanding job with the most difficult problem in model photography...managing depth of field. Would you be willing to share some of your technical approach with us? I have worked a little with a package called Helicon Focus, which allows stacking images focused at various distances, but your images do not show evidence of that process, at least that I can see.

As others have commented, I'd appreciate a couple of overview shots and some "railfan" images, but your structures and scenery are inspirational.

Thanks for sharing these.

Oh...I didn't see a reply to an earlier poster's question about the "size" of HO models. HO is an acronym for "Half O," or half the 1:48 scale of O scale models. After going through a number of historical twists and turns, though, the HO scale ration has been 1:87.1 for many, many years. The actual linear equivalent is that 3.5 mm on a model represents 1 foot on the prototype.

And let me assure you...the weirdness of both of those ratios has generated tons of discussion over the years within the model railroad hobby. But...we have finally just gotten over it and accepted the weirdness.

Just for a bit of attempted humor...my wife will no longer attend model railroad gatherings with me. She has said that if that many weird people keep meeting in large groups, one of these days God is going to decide to do something about it. And yes...I still go to the meetings and conventions.

You are an artist of modeling! I tried some as a kid with balsa wood and Testors paint. Yours are works of art!

That is some of the finest modeling I have seen in my many years of attending meets and reading Model Railroading. Many Kudos on some exceptional modeling and photos. Do you scratch build? Or do you start with kits and then add you own creativity and perspective?

Some day when I get control of my basement again I hope to rebuild an operating layout for my Lionel's, though I know I would not have the patience or skill to achieve anything near what you have created. Would greatly like to hear particulars on your layout. Many thanks for some great inspiration, Thomas.

Absolutely great! I used to have a O scale set up. The most enjoyable part besides running the trains was creating the scenic area's. between mountains, tunnels, and other diorama's this has to be my favorite happy. I still have all my trains and everything I've built, but I had to take it all down due to not having enough room. Hopefully when I retire next year, we'll move to a house with a full basement!

If you had not told me that some of the shots were of model train set ups, I would not have known. They look very real. You have put a lot of time and attention into your setups. Well done.

Superb work. So many modelers have well groomed, sterile towns and properties and they look like models. The best, like yours here are intentionally messy, incomplete or in various states of decay. Well done!
