Is anyone out there using Capture NX2? I've used it for several years and love it, but it hasn't been updated for many years. It's too bad, because it's a great alternative to Photoshop.

I still do. Too bad that it hasn't been up dated. I'm learning my way around NX-D, but don't like the TIFF out put.

You are aware it will not be updated, it was replaced awhile back with Capture NX-D, a free product, along with View NX-I

Capture NX-D does not make use of the control points that were in Capture NX-2. That was a NIK development, and is maintained in the NIK collection from Google - also free now, but totally unsupported.

I use Capture NX2 every day and it is heartbreaking that such a good program will eventually bite the dust. I have spent a lot of time lately trying to decide what to use in the future. I have learned Elements but am not willing to settle for converting everything to 8 bit so the search goes on.

I'm still using Capture NX-2 when working on RAW files from my D7000. It's an excellent editor but they stopped updating it. It was made for Nikon by NIK software. I'm not sure what happened when Google purchased NIK. Nikon should have purchased the rights to the software from NIK so they could continue with it. When I got my D500 I had to download Capture NX-D.

There used to be a hack that you would be able to have the whole Nik collection available in NX-2. I can't remember how to do it, and lost the link to it. That is one of the features I like about NX-D.

Always wanted to try NX2, never got down to it. NXD is good when it works, it is frustratingly slow on my iMac, does anyone else have this issue?

Although I've never used it, I can understand why Nikon doesn't want to invest money in further development. There is lots of competition in the processing field, and Nikon would rather concentrate on cameras.

I think you can still download Capture NX-2 from Nikon's website. Which camera do you have?

FWIW:

I tried NX-D on my iMac also and it felt sluggish as well while other post processing software was smooth, I use Lightroom & Photoshop CC, but keep other packages installed also like NX-D, View NX-I, Darktable, Gimp, Lightzone, Rawtherapee, Aftershot Pro, Canon's DPP.

Howdy, I agree NX2 is very useful and an upgrade would be welcomed.

I use two D500s - one fitted with the new 300 f4E and the other with the brilliant 200~500. I use a D7200 with another 200~500 with the TC 1.4 EIII fitted. For Landscape and Macro I use a D810 with the Tamron 15~30 and the Tamron 90mm 1:1 Macro SP lens. I don't think NX2 will be useful for these bodies.

OK. So I should have read a bit farther down the list. Yes, I use Capture NX2. Have for years and I love it. Downloaded NX-D but found it just enough changed that I decided I'm too lazy to climb the learning curve when I am satisfied with NX2.

Just curious - how much does it cost?

EDIT: Okay - found it - $80.

Thanks. I've been considering the D500 vs the 750...your thoughts please and like myself it seems you use long lenses for landscapes. I'll shoot with the old 500 f8 mirror lense when blessed with soft overcast light. It's sharp and it's low contrast can be an asset or pp'd to suit the mood. Right now I favor Oly MFT and have a D700 which is just fine for casual shooting.

My enduring love remains b&w film and have a lot of Nikon film equipment all of which is compatible with the D500. My plan is exit MFT entirely and upgrade with digital with a couple new VR's and on my wish list includes the 200-500. Please share your experience with this lense and the new 300 f4, I have the manual focus model and like it.
