I remember the whole school went to the cafeteria where there was a television set up and the whole school watched. Doesn't seem that long ago.

Quite an accomplishment, and some people don't believe that it happened! .

Whats really amazing is that the computer in the lunar module had 4K of ram and 32K of storage...about 500,000 times less that your average smartphone.

Today you can put 128GB of memory on a 1in SD card that weighs a gram. That 4k module was the size of a briefcase and weighed about 10 pounds.

Yup, it would seem that "fake news" started 48 years ago.

Just about everything we have today had meager beginnings. Look at modern cars and compare them to those available in the early 1900s. And the telephone. Went from a phone with a hand crank hanging on the wall to today's smart phone. Things have changed over the years and to keep bringing that up is boring.

Personally I thinks it amazing. 3 men traveled 365,000 miles, landed on the moon and took off again and made it back to earth with computer technology that 3 year olds today would think laughable. You have to put it in historic context. We're not talking about driving to grandmas house for Sunday dinner.

Don't forget to watch the movie called "The Dish".

A lot of very interesting things happen concerning the first moon landing.

Why must all 4:3 aspect ratio video be squashed into 16:9??? Just pad the screen with black bars, for goodness' sake. David Brinkley's head looks like a box, and the LEM looks about twice as wide as it should.

That said, it WAS an amazing feat. The technology was primitive, but the will was not. I hope I live long enough to see us get there, again, AND to Mars.

Yeah, I remember that day well, I was in Vietnam back at the base Camp Eagle and they broadcast this live (?) over Armed Forces Radio and I thought WTF, here I am halfway around the world trying to kill/or not get killed by some guys that I don't even know or care about. Such is life and death.............chase

I remember the day like it was yesterday. I was a Third Class Hospital Corpsman assigned to the Battalion Aid Station for the First 8" Howitzer Battery 12th Marines Third Marine Division in Dong Ha, Vietnam. The Chief broke out quart of medicinal alcohol and we each had a shot to celebrate. It's hard to believe that 48 years have passed since yesterday.

I remember that night well. I got home at about 2:00 AM and Mom was up watching it on the living room TV. I sat down with her and we watched it together. What an incredible accomplishment!

I kept looking at the TV, then walking outside to look at the moon and shaking my head to try to comprehend it all.
When they gave President Nixon some moon rocks he said, "Every politician promises the moon. I'm the only one who has ever delivered it."
