Of course you got no response !
Nikon has gone down the toilet. They have lost touch and no longer remember what customer service even means. Maybe it's a language thing.

Have a D3300 - received notice of firmware update - followed instructions - downloaded file to SD card [shows on card] put in camera went to firmware and nothing happened - emailed Nikon Support - left message - no response - has anyone had that same problem with either updating firmware for D3300/ Nikon Support?

Thank you

Depending upon when you sent Nikon Product Support, it may take a few days. The last email I sent to them was on a Friday evening, and I got an "automatic" response which said they would get back to me as soon as possible. I received a response on a Tuesday, and was encouraged to get back to them with any additional questions.

I've only had to call Nikon twice about problems I had with point and shoot cameras. I always got through to them, and was given an answer to my questions. One was an unacceptable answer that did not solve my problem. A friend owns a D3300. His last firmware was to be able to accept the Nikon AF-P lenses that are now on the market. The D3300 is one heck of an entry level camera. Too bad its replacement was the D3400. Check to see if your SD card is recommended for firmware. Or try another new SD card. Good luck.

Many people have given you the correct procedure. I had the same problem then I realized I was copying the downloaded file to the SD card. As mentioned, you have to unzip the downloaded file then find the .BIN file in the folder the unzipping created. Copy just that .BIN file to the root directory of the SD card which was formatted in camera. After you insert the SD card back into the camera, go to firmware update and you should find UPDATE available. Make sure you have a full battery otherwise it may not run. That should do it.

Timberfalls, This is a very well written easy to understand answer. I wish more people on this forum answered questions as effective as you. You described a common mistake many people make with the update. Thanks.

I had the same issue with my d7100. Tried to follow all the instructions even on youtube, finally gave up and took camera and card to my computer guru. He understood the folder lingo and click click all worked.

It continues to impress me how many people miss that step in Nikon's instructions. That would include me in my most recent update a month ago.

They need to make it more clear on the download page...big flashing print or something: "NOTE: YOU MUST FIRST EXPAND THE DOWNLOADED COMPRESSED FILE AND THEN TRANSFER THE .bin FILE TO YOUR CAMERA CARD!"

I just updated my D3300 It is Easy, but you need to follow the directions to the tee. And You MUST use an approved card. Here is a link to the updates http://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/products/21/D3300.html There are two updates, one for the camera and the lens update to support the AF-P. You do not say what your operating system is. Here is the windows instructions.

1. Create a folder on the computer hard disk and name it as desired. (d3300 update)
1.a format the card in the camera.
2. Download F-D3300-V101W.exe to the folder created in Step 1.
3. Run F-D3300-V101W.exe to extract the following file to a folder named “D3300Update”:
• D3300_0101.bin (the camera firmware)
4. Using a card slot or card reader, copy “D3300_0101.bin” to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
5. Insert the memory card into the camera memory card slot and turn the camera on.
6. Select Firmware version in the SETUP MENU and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the firmware update.
7. Once the update is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
8. Confirm that the firmware has been updated to the new version.
9. Format the card in the camera again.

do the same thing for the lens update.

Thank you - your thread on steps was perfect - my mistake - I had the camera on when I inserted the SD card - apparently - it has to be off - then insert the card and then turn the camera on - "who knew?" really appreciate it

Always turn the camera off when you're swapping cards - or lenses too, just to be safe. Nikon and all the others. I have hot swapped lenses by mistake and suffered no consequences, but why tempt fate?

Someday, cameras might have a switch that turns them off when one of those doors is opened. I've forgotten and left it turned on the change things, so I guess it's not a major problem. Changing the card while the camera is writing to it would be a problem, though.

Right. And it's possible for the system to squirt out a few bytes when you're unaware of it.
