I agree 100% with what you stated. When I recommended Picasa, I was pretty much called foolish. I find that it is a quick fix and has some pretty neat options to make fun pix with.
What I do is always make a copy and never touch the original which will automatically go to the bottom of the file.

I have used Picassa for years, have edited literally thousands of pictures and I think quite highly of its capabilities. I do not believe there is any negative security considerations associated with the program.

Like the other posts I am a long time user of Picasa and love it. Also use PS10, but start with Picasa. Like jadeast I upload photos to picasa web albums and send the link to those I want to see the photos. Much easier to send a link than all the photos.

I've been using it for years and love it! I haven't tried uploading to picasa web albums but I will now. Does the person you send the link to have to have picasa on their computer to see it?

Not that I'm aware of. I've never had anyone complain that they couldn't view pix whenever I sent them the link.

Thanks...I'll give a try.

The main objection I have with Picasa is that it doesn't allow you to choose what folders to create the Picasa directory. It does give you the chose of which drives to look at, but for me, I'd rather not have it scan my entire harddrive for pictures I'm not at all interested in viewing or doing anything with.
Delete them out.........

Hurrah for Picasa..Have used it for 5-6 years now.love it.
I use that more than CS5..not so complicated.
Most of PICNIC has gone. Why did they cancell it ??
PICNIK has not gone away but moved to an independent site for most of it's touchup work and so forth. Many of the old PICNIK applications have been moved to the new Picasa and the touchup apps are now available at PicMonkey.com free of charge with no download necessary. I've used Picasa for 3 years W/O any problem and like it because of it's ease of use. I use this along with 4 other free or minimal cost apps to do anything I need for PP. Good program and you can't beat the cost.........

I use Picasa viewer to view all my pictures initially, but don't edit with it. I use PSE 10. However, I do use Picasa to upload to their website so that I can share large groups of pictures with family and friends immediately after editing. I also use it to upload pictures to add slideshows to a couple of my websites that I manage. It is terrific and FREE which I love.
I also recommend it to friends to install if they aren't photographers, but want a photo managing/editing program but don't want to spend $$.

All of these positive statements about Picasa and Google are giant conspiracy to let google take control of our computers and the world! I know this to be a fact! The voices tell me it's true!

You got a point there, but on the other hand.... you step out of your house and cameras everywhere, in stores, street corners and they even track us from space.

So wave hello to Google :-D

Did you know yu can run Picasa as a Portable Application (from a USB stick).

Once you have installed it on a PC, just copy the program directly (and its contents) the the USB drive. Picasa will happily run, no further installation necessary.

Great trick that allows me to use it on the locked-down computers at work.

Generally speaking, I agree with all your words. I suspect that you are somewhat more than a casual user--maybe even a picasa employee.
I have been using the program for several years;with one exception, I have had zero problems; they put some stranger's pictures on my computer !
Now--a question: you implied that Picasa keeps all pictures. Some years ago, my computer crashed; I lost a few thousand pix.Is there any--ANY-- way that I could get them back ?

Picasa is simple and a wonderful tool for those starting out in PP.
I have used it for 10 years with no problems. I have lightroom 3 and Photoshop 5.5 but for rapid work flow Picasa is for me.

I totally agree. I am an amateur photographer and new to Picasa. All the things I can do on Picasa, as you say, for free, are amazing. It will take me a while to get to really know the program, but from what I've seen so far, I don't think I will be changing to something else any time soon :)
