My knowledge of Pentax started with the KX and ended with the LX. I don't know anything about newer Pentax and know very little about older Pentax although I do have an S3.

There are a few on here but not as vocal as other brands. I still use my K-5 as backup to my K-3 also still have my KX and a few Pentax film cameras and hopefully a K-1 in the near future

We are not as vocal for sure but most of us are fiercely loyal! I just sold my Q10 and bought a K-70. I wanted the articulating LCD. The images from the K-70 are on a par with my K-3 too. The Q10 was a mistake. I was not impressed at all.

Well, the Q-10 has a sensor less than 1/3 the size of K-70 sensor in each dimension; I have a Q-7, with a slightly larger sensor, but I use it only when smaller sensor, smaller body, or whisper-quiet shutter is called for. Pentax also hobbled "Q" family by refusing to use EVF.

Hi
I just found a couple of interesting options for manual lenses on Pentax if you have the raw/fx button you can use it for digital preview but more interesting is the optical preview around the shutter button hold it off to the right and use the front wheel to adjust your shutter speed in the lens it will be telling you how many stops you are off or if you have a prefered shutter speed you can adjust the aperture ring stopped down. I usually find the green button a little awkward as it's hard to find by feel.

Agreed. It desparately needs an EVF. I have an original Q that gets rarely used, primarily due to the fact I hate composing via LCD. It just doesn't feel right and for me just harder to stabilize the shot. It is a nice and compact option when I just don't want to lug a big DSLR around, but my Sony a6000 is seeing a lot more action over the Q at this point. Not as small and light as the Q, but a nice break from hauling the K3 every now and then.

Nice tip. I was not aware. Stop-down metering via green button is a rather unnatural/awkward process for me and has been stated by many to yield rather inconsistent results, as well -- varying from lens to lens and even between shots with the same lens. This tip may do the trick for me!!

Hi all,

New to the forum and Hedgehog. I've been reading posts for the last few weeks and haven't really found anyone with posts related to Pentax. I've found quite few good articles that have lead me to excellent utilities and tips that are general photography related, but I'm just curious if there are any Pentaxians present. Doesn't really matter -- just curious.

Thanks!!

Richard

I still do quite a bit of film shooting and there I use the Pentax 645nII a lot (a lot to like about that camera)!!

I have a 645 and absolutely love it. These eyes really appreciate the nice, big viewfinder.

Pentax person here. Have a Pentax K-1000 with Cambron 24mm lens // Pentax 50mm lens //Pentax AA 35-70mm lens. Purchase lenses and camera back in Fall of 1982. Don't let people bad mouth a Pentax K-1000. It is one of great camera of second half of the 20th Century. I also have a Honeywell/Pentax Spotmatic with Sears 55mm // Seligor 35mm // Sears 200mm lens // Viuitar Converter 2X. Remember Spotmatic takes M42 lens.

I never owned a Pentax film camera but I'm glad they made them. The lenses still work on my digital Pentax. My first 35mm camera was a Minolta srt201 with 50mm 1.7, a 135mm and a 2x converter
