I am a Canon guy so I'm going to say take the Canon. Both are very good cameras, but you also may want to check out the Canon T6s instead of the T6i. I think it has a much better body design. That's just my opinion.

Contrary to what the referenced site states, the D5600 does not have a built-in focus motor. I don't know about the Canon.
No Canon ever made in the EOS system ever had a built in motor. Never needed them as the lenses have always had the motor in them and every EF lens ever made focuses perfectly with every EOS camera ever made. No issue with trying to figure out where the motor is or any of those issues.

Hello, I'm looking to buy a new camera and it has come down to these two.
Disclaimer: I did NOT read the previous replies.
OK - - what do you HAVE already ??
IF you already HAVE Canon or Nikon glass - - then STICK with your manufacturer.
IF you have NOTHING, then you should handle BOTH, see what is best for YOU, and buy from the brick & mortar store where you try them out.
While you are looking, also consider the Canon T6s. It pretty much meets the criteria you have described with some added features over the T6i. I can't speak at all about any Nikon models.
