According to Macphun's website Luminar is coming for PC this fall. They have a link that allows you to sign up for an email notice at:

Raw Therapee is available for Windows, it is free. ON1 is available but is not free. I like Darktable which has an unofficial Windows release:

steaz.altervista.org/darktable-for-windows/

You can also use Windows 10 BASH shell an Xming to run Darktable. Another pay alternative is PhotoNinja. A last choice: Photoscape X.

Luminar has some interesting post processing capabilities but it does not have a browse function yet. I would look at on1 Raw.

I use both, but Luminar the most.

I virtually never purchase upgrades; I purchase what works for me and then use it.

I don't smoke or drink. My Ford Fiesta gets 40mpg on the open road. The most I've ever spent on a camera kit was the $700 I spent for a Canon EOS Elan kit that I then used for 11 years. Your argument might work in your world, but has no meaning in mine.

Well that is fine, it works for you and that is a good thing. My point was that no sense complaining about the PS/LR model as it works for many of us and I was trying to show that we spend much more $$ on other things than the cost of the PD/LR package.

No intent to insult or offend anyone.

Have a very nice day, shoot some really great photographs and post them here.

On1 Raw has both the sorting features of Lightroom CC and the masking/layers/compositing capability of Photoshop in one $100 package. You can also import your Lightroom adjustments into it as long as the sidecar files are attached. So far they have come through with free updates that have provided the capability promised when the initial version became available last year. Only thing still missing that I can see is virtual copies, a feature I use a lot in LR. Also, HSL sliders are not up to LR standards but there. Lots of good free tutorials as well.

To me On1 Raw is a viable solution for anyone who does not want the Adobe subscription.

I too have switched to ON1 Photo RAW 2017, and it not only works very well with RAW (Olympus, Fujifilm, Sony, Lumix, Leica Type 109), but it does great with JPG's for those brands as well. It is much more intuitive than Lightroom and sells for about $129.

Here is a link to a video where T. Northrup compares 2 alternatives: Photoscape X and Raw Therapee.

[quote=bullethole]While I love lightroom adobe's subscription model ticks me off. Any suggestions for alternatives which include the catalog and organization capabilities as well as the develop functions. I have no need for photoshop at this time as I can handle all my PP activities from LR develop moduoe[/quot

If you don't like the subscription model, why don't you just buy Lightroom 6? It's still available for outright purchase, with a perpetual license. It cost around $140 last time I looked and is largely the same as Lightroom CC.

Photoshop is only sold via subscription.... Elements is only sold as an outright purchase.... Lightroom is sold both ways (and, according to Adobe, will continue to be offered that way).

Those people who get ticked off by the subscription model just don't understand how it works and why it's better. Adobe has over 9,000,000 subscribers to their software, making a ton of money, and I for one am no longer spending a fortune keeping my Adobe titles current - so I LOVE the suscription model. The last full version Photoshop I bought cost me over $900, and I had to update it 18 months later and THAT cost me $150. It was a no-brainer for me to embrace the subscription model for PS and LR when the price settled down to $10/mo.

Many of us understand exactly how it works. Adobe is much more expensive than really good alternatives like: Affinity, PaintShop Pro, etc...

Lightroom/Photoshop subscription: $10 a month = $120 a year = $360 (for three years).

If you use Affinity or PaintShop Pro you pay $50-$60 for a perpetual use license (and can upgrade whenever you want). I typically have an upgrade cycle of once every three years (unless the software comes out with a feature I really want -- which is rare).

So for me $50-60 versus $360 (given a three year upgrade cycle).

Everyone is free to do what they want. Personally, I'd rather have that extra money for something else.

I get it if you are a Professional and have a business (in this case it is relatively easy to justify), but for me I'm an enthusiast and much prefer PaintShop Pro.

Nothing against Adobe -- I've actually helped convert a lot of people to Photoshop Elements away from the Adobe subscription (most basic photographers (especially if they are non-professionals) don't need and in most cases barely even know how to use Photoshop). So Photoshop Elements is completely fine for them (and the subscription or CC is just a waste for them).

There is an excellent application, capture one pro, that offers a combination of outstanding tools and easy to use asset management. Having tried and used several pp and editing applications, including the adobe line, I find capture one better suited to my desired work flow and use of time than the others. The cost is about $300 and there are updates. The learning curve is not steep and is well worth the time. Phase one offers excellent tech support. It is an alternative to Lightroom in terms of workflow and ease of use for me. It may or may not be the same for everybody. The tools themselves are, in my view, superior in certain instances to lr not only because of their performance but that I can carry out my aim and vision for the photographs I make. It is been my personal experience that raw is addressed more to my liking than lr, for example, so I can spend more of my time making the photograph than on processing and adjustments. Phase one offers a trial and.works on both apple OS and windows OS.
I do not work for phase one. I am an amateur who cannot paint nor draw.

Yes. I know I can buy light room, in fact I have. Being in the software business and seeing a lot of products switching to subscriptions, it is ,IMO, only a matter of time before adobe switches to subscriptions only. I am well aware of Linux options, I have worked with Linux for well over 20 years and currently work on a product that uses Linux. Yes I can catalog on my own using the file system, but that looses me the keyword searching of the Lightroom catalog. I pulled affinity and Corel down last night and played around with them. Corel seems to be more comparable to lr in its management of content than affinity. It will take some getting used to and I still need to try out the printing component, but it looks like a reasonable alternative

On the Corel side they have two programs. PaintShop Pro is their alternative to Photoshop, and AfterShot Pro is their alternative to Lightroom. If you're want a program with cataloging capabilities make sure and look at AfterShot Pro.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n30BETIbuLs a 10 minute video running through a little of what ON1 Photo Raw 2017 can do.

I'm a big fan of lightroom so it would take a lot to pull me away from that, but this has potential.
