Good image. Looks like good resolution too with that crop. I thought you recently bought a Panasonic camera- but I see you are using an Olympus EM 10 Mark 2. Do you have both? I must have missed something :) I had the first EM 10 and I thought it was a fine camera- it was on the small size though. Did you find the eagles on the Yakima River?

I always look forward to your eagle images, Linda. They contain all the things I like in a great photograph - composition, color, clarity and, most important to me, an interesting subject. The time you spend among these majestic birds of prey must be exhilarating.

Excellent images. I especially like the hillside background. Everything stands up well in the crop.

Hi, Linda.
Love the eagles shot.
I am going to Maine on vacation at the end of July and plan to visit some of the wildlife refuges.
Staying in York and driving each day to where ever we feel we want to explore.

So good to see the family again, Linda, and I see it's twins this year. Lovely shots, and you have such a fantastic vantage point.

Though I have had some good results with the 2x digital zoom of my new Olympus EM10 MarkII, these are edits from raw (cropping done in pp, rather than in-camera). I was able to pull details from the harsh light and shadows more successfully. It was only 9 a.m., but that's life in July at the 47th parallel

#1 is a crop of #2. Olympus 75-300 mm lens at 285 mm lens x2 for crop sensor factor = 570 mm angle of view. Nice to be level with the nest, but it's still quite a distance away.

For those of you who have shared the stories of the new families with me in previous seasons, this is summer number 5...how time flies! Thanks so much.

Linda... the prospective is from higher than the Eagle's nest! Did you really climb a tree that high? Great shot... did you use line man's spikes on your ankles?

Yep, cropping makes a difference.... sure does....

Thank you, Don! So glad you enjoyed. Though the distance is a little beyond the best reach of the cameras I've owned, the location can't be beat. I park the car, walk across a two-lane paved road, and lean against the guardrail, lol. Here is a wide angle view. The nest is in the tree to the right. The Yakima River is the body of water, and it's a bit further below the road than this shot might indicate. This was last year with the bridge camera:

Nicely done, Linda. I really like that you're on a level with them and not looking up from underneath. I'd say that camera (and you) do a very good job - to crop that much and it doesn't seem pixelated is quite a good job!

Thank you for viewing, Kathy! I ran my first edit past Minnie, and she pointed out some issues, so I went back to the dng and started over. I think I've wrung the most I can from this, considering the distance and that the wind was buffeting both me and the tree, lol.

Beautiful images and certainly apropos of the date. Do the same eagles return to that nest each year, or is it just a summer rental and open to anyone? Do you know if once the older eagles die off, do juveniles once raised there return to that spot and claim the nest as their own? Or are they stuck building their own somewhere else, never to return? Just curious.

Thank you for your interest, Randy! All I know is this is the same nesting pair that's been returning for at least seven years. Excellent questions and I shall try to find out more via Mr. Google. I did happen to see a juvie one spring that was attacked and driven away very quickly by the Mister. I felt bad to think it might have been the previous year's offspring attempting to find familiar real estate.
