Took some photos at a Rose Garden in San Jose. Although none of the shots really thrilled me I did some editing and was wondering what you thought. I haven't done much editing and I am wondering if I over did it. Would love your comments. Thanks.

I like the 1st one.... You might consider uploading the original so folks can get a better idea of what's going on.

In your 1st image, you have way too much going on in the background. I keep going back and forth to the rose in the foreground then back to the background. I would have focused in more on the rose and blurred out more of the background, so the main thing I see is the yellow rose. Also your focus is soft.

In the 2nd image, the background is much better and the attention is on the rose. But your focus is a little soft.

If you live in the South Bay or near the Rose Garden, I recommend you join the Sunnyvale Camera Club or the Santa Clara Camera Club and attend their free classes and field trips.

Thanks Rob for your input. I appreciate it. I am actually located in the East Bay.

Check out Len Cook's Meet Ups in Fremont. Great classes cheap. I go whenever I can.

I have been on a couple of his photo walks. Need to retire before I can attend any of his classes😊

Nice pictures and you've isolated them well with good DOF. As the flower is the focal point, I would crop closer to make them a vertical format and draw more attention to them individually. Obviously with any form of close-up/macro photography sharpness is a key issue but easily remedied. I like these. And, of course, raindrops/dew/insects always add a little more (as in your first shot).

These don't need editing. They're beautiful the way they are.
