Let me add Olympus, Pentax, and Panasonic to the list of innovative companies.

But you made THE post of this thread Steve!!!

I've heard nothing but terrible things about those Metabones adapters and would never rely on one.

CAN they be used?

SURE THEY CAN.

And since the 6DII is used mostly for portraiture and landscape photography... you know; where manual focus is acceptable... then those lenses will work just as well as on a native body and give BETTER image quality with the mirrorless cameras.

^^^EXCELLENT post.

Thing is, with those Sony cameras you mentioned, Canon users can utilize their existing glass.

With an adapter. Hardly the same as native.

I guess I can understand a new buyer choosing a brand because of specs but.......do people who already own camera systems actually switch brands because some other company comes out with more "innovative" products?

Have you guys actually SEEN what Canon is offering in the new 6DII?

6.5 fps is OK............ for 4 years ago.

45 AF points is OK........... for an APS-C camera from 4 years ago.

No headphone jack for a Full-Frame camera? Never OK. But

No 4K video? That's OK for a bottom of the range, point and shoot camera..................................... from 5 years ago!

Don't get me wrong; Dual Pixel AF is the best AF implementation for live view video in a DSLR. And this is one of the FEW cameras that has built in GPS and uses Blutooth for communication with smartphones for remote control.

But guys... shouldn't consumers be getting much, MUCH more for $2,000.00?

In 2017... with Sony and Pentax offering better performing and specified full frame cameras, and Fujifilm, Panasonic, and Olympus, all offering better performing APS-C & m4/3 cameras, ALL FOR LESS?!?!

What are the people at Canon THINKING?!?!?!

I think it just comes down to Canon leaving room for improvement. Kinda like Ford has been doing for years now.

papak, I think the bold portion is key to the argument that Canon isn't offering enough to get people to move up.

Look at Nikon. From D610 to the D750... BIG jump in technology.

Sony A7 to Sony A7II; HUGE jump in technology and features.

Tremendous incentive to upgrade. 6DII... not as much. ESPECIALLY in light of what is available from other manufacturers.

I understand what you are saying but disagree. If these other companies are so innovative and better than Canon, in your opinion, why don't they have a larger market share?

Lack of innovation seems to be the standard rap on Canon, and you sound like a disgruntled Canon shareholder who only just discovered this. Fair enough, but probably you should be complaining to Canon's CEO about it. In any case, there's not much to actually discuss. If you're a reviewer you can pan the product, but my guess is that Canon executives are actually aware of the competition and have a rationale for their product development decisions. If we knew the rationale we could use it in a business school case study or talk sensibly about it, but otherwise the "discussion" is just a series of truisms: Canon doesn't do anything with 4K video (or whatever). Some people will want the 6D II anyway. Both statements are true and together they pretty much cover what can be said on the topic.

Cholly clearly has a bee under his bonnet. He doesn't like Canon's decision. I get that. It seems like every post in this thread by him is beating the same points, over and over again. Cholly, give it a rest.

I started out in the DSLR world with a Sony A100. Replaced it with a Sony A200. Then Sony shrank their bodies to the point where they were too small (physically) for my taste and, IIRC, they went to a different mount. So, if I stayed with Sony I was looking at new lenses, as well. My daughter has a Canon T3i that she has had good luck with. When I was looking for a new DSLR a few years ago I thought I'd get one, too. But, Canon had replaced it with the T5i. OK, so I bought that. It meets my needs and works great. I don't use the 18-55 mm lens that came with it as I was always changing lenses to get longer reach. Replaced it as my carry lens with their 18-135 mm. For my needs, works great. Will I stick with Canon? Probably. And if I stay with the compact sensor I'll just keep the glass I have and use it on the new body. But, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Cholly, it's personal preferences. Give it a rest. We know you don't like Canon's choices with this camera. I've got a simple suggestion for you. Don't buy one.

A camera body is only part of the photographer's kit. The lens and lens mounts and those wonderful accessories are brand specific. So switching brands in cameras is more expensive than switching smartphones or laptops. For a Canon user with a nice array of lenses, speedlights, and accessories the options are:
1) keep what you got and go buy a Sony (or whatever other brand)with the fabulous features you want and the lenses and accessories you need to shoot the video and stills you want. Pretty expensive way to go but certainly doable for many. 2) Sell or trade in all the Canon gear and buy a different brand. Less expensive than option 1 but more painful and depressing. 3) Save up and buy the pro-level Canon that has all the features that the 6D ii lacks but you can still use the Canon gear that you've already invested in - expensive but less depressing than 2. 4) Send Canon tweets and Facebook posts telling them how disappointed you are with the lack of 4K video in enthusiast level cameras and wait until they come out with a newer revision of the 6D that has all the features you want.

With my budget and other hobbies I'm doing 5) Keep what I got and have fun shooting stills.

If Cholly had a cat, it would either go feral or commit suicide! Cats have self respect.

I think the 6D2 and 5D4 (also lacking 4K video) must be like catnip to this guy.

4K video at the very least! I love the capability to capture high quality 4K video and do frame grabs for pix.

Not too sure why Canon really released the 6D II if they weren't really serious about an upgrade from the excellent 6D!?
