While other camera ISO numbers go higher, the real key is how much noise there will be at the most commonly and reasonably used higher settings. The images I've seen from the 6DII at ISO 40,000 appear to be pretty clean with lots shadow detail. The camera is said to have better low light response than the Canon 5D Mark IV. It will be interesting to see sensor test results.

Yep.

And low noise, high ISO performance is a key metric.

Will it score as high in low noise performance as the nearly 4 year old A7S, which btw is still being sold and is available for about $600 less than the 6DII? One would hope so. But the low dynamic range looks to be another problem... which of course, is typical of modern Canon sensors.

Time will tell... but the ONLY way to get better performance from Canon is for it's users to DEMAND better gear. That's just all there is to it.

Competition is good for ALL of us.... but it seems as though Canon is giving up the race before the gun sounds.

And with fan loyalty like that exhibited on this website, I'd say that the company is banking on people just not caring.

#1, this is a full frame camera, for people that want to start with their first full frame camera, NOT AN EXPERT CAMERA.
#2. 6.5 frames pre second is not slow for a full frame camera in this price range
#3 Only one SD card slot, no kidding, the 6D ii is a full frame Canon 80D, it's the same exact body.
#4 Every camera that comes out is not going to have 4K video
#5 If you don't like this camera, buy some thing else.
#6 Every camera produced is giving photographers another choice, if you don't like this choice....see #5.

I prefer to wait for the reviews and individual hands on user experience before drawing any conclusions one way or the other. As you said, "Time will tell".

So the 6D ii is a really nice transition for someone buying a full frame that already has Canon glass and is comfortable with the Canon layout and controls.

I think that's the point of this thread.

Canon has made decisions that will CHASE a lot of potential customers away.

The 6DII price is also less than the intro price of the original 6D

I have a Canon 5D-3. It has video. I have 17,000+ shots so far, and about 3 minutes of video. Makes no sense to me to use a DSLR for video. If I wanted video, I would have spent $3,000 on a video camera instead, or have both. My choice of course. so for those that do like the video feature, the choice is simply buy something else. There are plenty of options.

Canon wants to offer a FF camera at a lower cost-point than its current line-up. They do not want to offer a less expensive version of what they already offer - that would hardly make good business sense.

Yes

I have and love the 6D and my only criticism is the rudimentary (though fast and accurate even in low light) AF system.
This has been nicely addressed with 45 cross type points.

If I wanted/needed more I'd consider the 5D IV and if that wasn't enough I'd buy the 1D II

Also....If I wanted to do video I'd buy a video camera.

Greetings folks. New to UHH, and love reading posts each day. Haven't commented until now. This thread has been quite interesting to me.

Above quote sounds more like pre-cognitive guessing than market analysis.

There is no possible way any company can make a camera that everyone likes. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Quit worrying about it. If the camera doesn't sell, they will be able to figure that out .

Have you guys actually SEEN what Canon is offering in the new 6DII?

6.5 fps is OK............ for 4 years ago.

45 AF points is OK........... for an APS-C camera from 4 years ago.

No headphone jack for a Full-Frame camera? Never OK. But

No 4K video? That's OK for a bottom of the range, point and shoot camera..................................... from 5 years ago!

Don't get me wrong; Dual Pixel AF is the best AF implementation for live view video in a DSLR. And this is one of the FEW cameras that has built in GPS and uses Blutooth for communication with smartphones for remote control.

But guys... shouldn't consumers be getting much, MUCH more for $2,000.00?

In 2017... with Sony and Pentax offering better performing and specified full frame cameras, and Fujifilm, Panasonic, and Olympus, all offering better performing APS-C & m4/3 cameras, ALL FOR LESS?!?!

What are the people at Canon THINKING?!?!?!
Have you guys actually SEEN what Canon is offering... (show quote)

Sounds like an OK camera to me.

I don't shoot Video.
I don't spray and pray.
I generally only spot meter.
I generally only use single point focus.
I don't shoot flying birds.
I only use AF sometimes.
I do mostly close-ups, landscapes, macro, and the like.
I'm mainly interested in the sensor (size).
I do shoot pretty much like I did film, slowly and methodically.
I don't need or want a new camera every new model.

I am not a gear head, I use 2009 and 2011 vintage cameras that work fine for me for now.
If I were a Canon user I'd be more than happy with a 5Dii or 80D.
In the future I do plan to purchase a couple new cameras for me, a Pentax K-1, and a Pentax K-3ii.

I think Canon is AGGRESSIVELY segmenting it's market offerings too.

If you want 4K... something EVERY other camera manufacturers offers in even APS-C cameras... then Canon want's you to buy it's pro Cine cameras.

That's puzzling...

I thought this was a pretty stunning omission. I shoot a lot of video, and Canon led the pack for years. Even down to the Rebel line, video performance was best in class. I'll still keep my old 5DII around, but there is no way I would spend that much on a new SLR or a mirrorless for that matter, that did not support 4K.

Well yes. I have a Canon EOS SXI about 10 years old that after 170,000 snaps STILL works flawlessly...I shoot mostly musicians in performance and have done so for over 40 years. I have newer cameras and really I have discovered that the very best camera is the one that you have in your hands at that moment.
I am published weekly and my photos have appeared in several national magazines fairly often. I am impressed with the Canon build quality and will probably buy the 6D2 after it has been out for a few months. I have a separate video system so that feature doesn't interest me in much. Neither does multiple card slots or fast frame rates. I am currently shooting Essence Festival in New Orleans
