Not a great shot I admit, but this lil' guy/gal has been visiting for a while, and it's the first chance I could get a shot. It moves fast and its head bobs so much, it's hard to stay in focus. If anyone knows what type it is, please let me know.
Nikon p510, ISO 200, 1/640@f5.9, 2000mm equivalent.
Handheld, shot through window.
If anyone knows what type it is, please let me know.
Looks like a Northern Bobwhite quail. Nice photo. Very clear
A NORTHERN quail? Must be on vacation here in Florida. Thanks, Neal. ;-)
I forgot to add that it was also a male. Maybe on a "business" trip.
He blends into his background pretty well.
It is a bobwhite quail. I have never heard of a Northern bobwhite quail though.

Take a look in one of your bird books like Kaufman's Birds of North America or National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America and you will see it called "northern". When I first saw it I also said Bobwhite but checked the guides and Northern was in front of Bobwhite. Bird people have congresses every so often and sit around changing names. Anyway Bobwhite is a good call.

Where, if I might ask, do you live in the SB wine country? I am in Carp.

I don't know what kind of quail he is, but this is a good shot, Photog8! He sure blends in with his surroundings!
Thanks to everyone for looking and commenting. Great camo colors except for his head. There is a pair hanging around but they are very skittish. First I've seen in our 8 years here. ;-)
Nice capture! Lots of photographers claim that birds in flight are hard to capture, but do not under-estimate the difficulty on capturing those birds on the ground.
Thanks for sharing. Well done, and having them close at had is a real blessing and a challange.
Thanks, Jerome. Appreciate your nice comments. ;-)
