I am looking for comments on disc image and back up software for Windows 7. I am interested on Macrium Reflect; any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks.

Macrium Reflect is probably the best free backup software. I did have trouble making the boot USB for restore. It is the recommended software by Maximum PC Magazine. But - what's wrong with the built in backup software?

I have used Acronis for 10 years. I had it for Win 7 and now for Win 10. Many options.

I'm using Acronis and Crash Plan. The uploading of software off site is getting more expensive and I'm seriously looking at my own cloud NAS system. In the long run might be cheaper.

I am looking for complete disc cloning software; the built in software can't do that. Thanks

Thank you, but can you backup to an external SSD or regular external drive with Acronis?

My pleasure. I am grandfathered for unlimited cloud backup and 24/7 online support for $99 a year. (not available anymore)

I use Acronis, and wouldn't use anything else. Runs under Windows 7 and 10. I (now retired) spent the last 15 years of my career with EMC, and I know storage systems cold. Acronis is the only way to go. Restoring your system is easy. Install the new disc drive, boot from the Acronis recovery disc, navigate to your backup, click restore, and it rebuilds everything, operating system and all your software. Best to backup to a USB hard drive. (USB 3 if you can).

Totally agree. I've been a user for 10+ years. And their tech support is fabulous.

I use both the W10 backup (it's really a holdover from W7) and Macrium Reflect (the free version). It's probably overkill but I create a full image each time I run a backup. I've had to restore from the W10 image one and it came off without a hitch. Never tried with the Macrium image.

Carbonite is a fine, if slow, solution for file backup.
Unfortunately, it does not help if you lose your OS.
It also leaves your files open to inspection (and all that that entails, including blackmail). (For those who insist that online storage is secure, just remember how easy it was to hack the DNC's files)
