I don't know of many cameras that will appreciate in value. It will not be worth more than it is now.

Believe it was Sanborn, not sure that said that on as shoot he takes two cameras, one having wide angle the other a zoom. And carries no other lenses, and never has to stop to change his lens

It's possible that you don't need two D810's. The problem at this point is how much you can get for a used 810. If you can get something decent, I'd recommend selling it and purchasing a used or refurbished D7100 to use as a dedicated wide angle camera. On vacation, or wherever, it would eliminate lens changes, or decrease them quite a bit, depending on what lenses you have. Hopefully the trade would put quite a bit of money in your pocket.

I bought two Nikon D810 cameras cameras a few months ago with the intention of shooting weddings once again, but since then, I decided not to. I dont know whether or not hold on to the second unused camera is a good idea or not because of possible detioration. other than the batteries is there a problem with keeping it or shoud I sell it? I really don't need two cameras.

If you've already got both cameras, keep them. You can always carry a long lens on one and a wide angle on the other. In addition, you always have a backup.

I have a D500 and as a backup D7100. I put a telephoto on one and a 24-70 on the other. I shoot sports where the two setups work for me. If you don't need two cameras, sell one.
Good luck.

Yesterday doing a mundane real estate shoot of a Walgreens and the batteries ran out. No problem - whipped out the spare pair from the bag - popped em in and !@#$%^&& camera decides it doesn't like those non-Nikon batteries. Has used them for years but today when I'm on the other side of town - NO, No Good!
Didn't have the old spare camera with me!!!!!! Haven't had a problem with the new camera in over a year....
Now, ask me again about carrying a backup camera?

If you sell this let me know in a reply. I would be interested in a like new 810.

I once met a pro photographer, some time ago, who did Weddings, and owned two Canon 5D Mark 3s. This was before the Mark 4 was released. I asked him why he had two camera bodies. He said in case one fails on him. That made sense to me. I take a pocket camera as a backup to my DSLR. However, since you don't do weddings anymore, I see no reason, IMO to have two full frame D810s. I would sell it, and get a refurbished D7200, as a second backup camera body, and use whatever FX lenses you have already to use on it.

Wedding photographers should ALWAYS have back-ups. Always.

My D50 sat in the closet for over 5 years. Took it out, charged it up and it works like new. I have never had a camera degrade from not using it.

A backup camera is always good if you're a pro or making $$$ with your camera: U never know when one camera will fail or be unusable for any reason. You've got a great FF camera,
but a good backup up would be a refurbished 7100 or 7200 DX camera. I'm a freelancer and I have a 750 and a 7200, and I feel comfortable with having the best of BOTH worlds!

Good luck, and let us know what you decide to do! --Greenmachine

That's easy. Sell it or trade it for a camera with a different " Focal Length. then you can switch cameras quickly, when on a trip or shoot. BB

If you are going to store it, take the battery out!
