Arriving back in the UK we took a quick visit to Arundel for a coffee before our long drive North. No time to go into the grounds of these beautiful buildings, just a walk through the streets. It is a market town in a vale of the South Downs, West Sussex. Thought you might like a look at a waterways map.
Arundel Castle is a restored and remodelled medieval castle and residence which was established by Roger de Montgomery on Christmas Day 1068. It was damaged in the English Civil War and restored in the 18th and 19th centuries. From the 11th century it has been a home and in the ownership of the family of the Duke of Norfolk for over 400 years. It is a Grade 1 listed building.
Just a street view of the The Cathedral Church of our Lady and St.Philip Howard which was founded by Henry 15th Duke of Norfolk and was completed on 1st July 1873, when it was dedicated as the Catholic Parish Church of Arundel. It became a Cathedral in 1965. The architectural style is Gothic Revival and the Architect was Joseph Hansom who invented the Hansom cab.
