Hi Guys and Girls
I just broke my 18-55 Nikon kit lens. No insurance, should I repair, replace, scrap or upgrade?
Blessed, that I was not injured.

Replace with a better lens. All depends on what you will use it for and what you can afford to spend..

Scrap, if your impecunious (Broke) like most of us look for a used upgrade like Sigma etc, I never buy new, cameras or lenses.

SCRAP IT..

BUY A NEW OR USED ONE....GOOD USED ONES ARE A DIME A DOZEN SINCE THIS IS A USUAL KIT LENS....TRASH IT AND MOVE ON....

GO TO KEH.COM OR EBAY OR AMAZON 3RD PARTY....TONS AND TONS OF THESE LENSES AVAILABLE..

That depends. What kind of breakage? Just because it's a "kit" lens, that doesn't mean it's no good.

What part broke? No one can say if it's worth fixing or throw it away without knowing. If it is just the mount it could be only $4-5 you can fix yourself. We just don't know

Replace it if there has been lots of damage. The cost of repairs is going to be similar or more expensive than the cost of a new lens.

I just read article from a Photographer stating he feels the Nikon 18-55 VRII lens is quite good for a variety of reasons, and he suggest keeping it in our Camera Bag. Now that saying, I myself have only used mine a few times, I bought the Nikon 55-200 VRII lens, 35mm 1.8g prime, and just yesterday bought the Nikon 50mm 1.8g prime, so I am not sure how much my 18-55 will be used, but I will keep it.

Scrap. Minimum repair at Nikon is about $500.00

Scrap it. I like the lens, so I had mine fixed. The cost was about the same as a new/refurbished one. It wasn't worth the cost, considering the wait for the repair.
