I like your "first attempt" better than the second attempt. I even like the original better than the second attempt.

I like your first attempt too. You might want to look at the most recent video by Serge Ramelli. He would soften the sky. And I would crop some sky from the top: perhaps to a 4x9.

I had real trouble deciding between #1 & #2...but I'm going with #1 even though #2 brings out more detail, #1 is more natural looking.
