Yosemite's Bridalveil Fall and the elusive rainbow...
I finally got a shot of Yosemite's Bridalveil Fall's elusive rainbow 2 weeks ago! I've been trying for years to get this but the timing is always wrong. My wife went with me and as we were coming down from Glacier Point, the sun just looked like it was at the right angle and position for a rainbow to happen. We had to drive a long ways in anticipation but I was sure as long as we got there by 4pm, we would see the rainbow. As we pulled into Tunnel View parking lot, everyone was going nuts. I grabbed my gear and -no time to set up the tripod- saw the rainbow! It lasted for about 30 minutes in very light to very strong colors. The fall was huge from the snow melt this year so the rainbow was quite large and traveled part of the way up the fall. When I was done, we then drove to the Bridalveil parking lot and I walked up the trail with my camera in it's rain cover. Just at the point where you get soaked if you go any farther, I saw a double rainbow across the trail right in front of me! I've never seen this before! The pictures of of Bridalveil Fall from Tunnel View, a close up of the bottom of the fall, a wide angle of the Valley and Half Dome from Tunnel View with the rainbow still visible on Bridalveil (my wife took this one) and finally the double rainbow on Bridalveil trail. Now if I can get the Horsetail fall firefall in February, I'll be in heaven!
Excellent photos with the elusive rainbow! Congratulations!
My favorite place on this earth. Such beauty and peace.
Thanks for posting. Don't know if I will get back there in my life time. Don

Great shots! You apparently were in the right place at the tight time! We will be there end of July. (First time ) Hoping this years record snow pack will keep the falls running. Thanks for sharing.
I'm sure you'll still hsve a lot of water at the end of July. There was over 30 feet of snow this year and Tioga pass won't open until later this month. Have a great time!
Do NOT forget to go to Glacier Point. Many people skip this trip because it is 17 miles off highway 41 -the south entrance through Yosemite. Glacier Point is 8,000 feet in elevation and gives you the most incredible views of Yosemite valley below and Half Dome. It is an extra hour round trip (30 minutes each way for 17 miles!) but worth every minute of the trip! Here is a shot of suicide rock (as I like to call it) at the top of Glacier Point with Yosemite Falls and the valley 4,000 feet below. To the right of this is Half Dome and Vernal and Nevada Falls.
