Great Blue Heron caught a snake

I posted this just for fun. I was practicing shooting in manual so I don't think the images are as good as they should be. I think this is a water snake..not a water moccason. Can anyone tell?

Cool.

The snake's body looks awfully thick. I can't really see it's head well enough to be sure, but I would not be surprised if it was a cottonmouth.

I cropped the head tighter and will set it to download. The eye looks round to me with a closer look.

That Big Blue won't be hungry for at least a week! As I looked at the length of the snake and the size of the bird, I wondered what he would do with such a catch. I write about nature here in South Georgia, but this was an eye-opener for me. I see herons and egrets eat fish, but never a snake. Thanks for the experience! Glad your camera was ready for the capture.
