Photographers warned trying to picture iconic Bamburgh Castle.

A warning has been issued as professional and amateur photographers try to capture the best images of the famous castle. It's one of the most photographed locations in the North East of England.

There is however an increasing issue with photographers, both professional and amateur, accessing areas they’re not supposed to be in so that they can capture the ‘perfect shot’.

One of the fields has been set aside as part of an EU backed stewardship plan which encourages wildlife on to farmland.
The field is sown in two halves - the half closest to the sea is sown with plants that provide ground cover for nesting birds and pollen rich wild flowers for bees.
The inland half is sown with plants that will feed the birds throughout the year. Birds which are attracted include reed buntings, skylarks, and grey and red partridge, as well as mammals.

The last thing that is wanted are over eager photographers creating footpaths into the field and disturbing the birds and animals and trampling the crops.

Wow, after watching the quick video tour of that beautiful castle, I can see why there is such a furor among photographers positioning themselves to get the best shots. Even the landscape outside the castle is breathtaking. However, photographers need to obey any rules that apply to the castle's premises. I would love to visit there. Thanks for sharing this quick video tour.

Northumberland is a beautiful county but due to the typical North East of England weather, it was not often seen as a popular tourist resort.

Recent television programs such as Vera and Inspector George Gently, has brought recognition to the area and this is from where the trouble has come.
Within a few miles of each other we have Bamburgh Castle,

Holy Island (Lindisfarne), Tide Tables will have to be observed for Causeway opening times for access to the island.

Farn Islands, which has its own photography guidelines,

The whole area is owned by the National Trust and their guidelines are there for a reason. A lot has been said on this site about using long lenses for landscape photography.
Perhaps this is an occasion to take notice.

Alan.

Funny you should mention the weather. We got as far as the car park and even paid for parking. My wife and I got out of the car into a howling gale and didn't even want to walk the hundred yards or so to the castle, so we drove off.

We've been to Holy Island 4 times. It was raining 3 out of 4 times. I must say that when it wasn't raining, it was beautiful, and the walk out to the castle was worth it.

The scenic coastal route is worth a drive when the weather is nice. This area is known for the birds, and when the time is right, you can go out on a boat and see all of the birds on the islands, like puffins.
