Thank You for your response, ProfessorRagtop. I was attached to a special Navy unit, US Fighting Seabees MCB-8. largestest battalion in Vietnam. Stationed
in Port Hueneme, CA - trained at Camp Pendleton, CA with Marines - never complained about anything! These days their should be more respect to this country!
There is no country in the world BETTER than the UNITED STATES of AMERICA. The Best, AP
I don't know how to respond!
In 1968 I was graduating from a very liberal, liberal arts college and signing up to be a Naval Aviator. The college was a veritable factory for hippies and protesters. I ended up being a Vietnam vet but my missions were over the seas around Vietnam and never actually in country. So, technically, I'm a vet. In my heart, I've never felt like one because there was no danger in my missions.
I too began learning photography over there. My Tri-X shooter was a Nikkomat. Our missions took us to Thailand, the Philippines, Taiwan and once to Iran. I have boxes of negatives and slides.
Your photos are a stunning reminder. Thanks for posting them.
Being Memorial day, it reminded me to look up the numbers.
58,220 American soldiers died
It is estimated that between 200,000 and 250,000 South Vietnamese soldiers died
Vietnam estimates that over a million North Vietnamese and Viet Cong fighters died
Estimates are that about 2 million civilians on both sides died
Above all, thank you for your service and helping me to remember those that died there.

THANK YOU, for your observation and response, bspraque. Judgement is hard to respond too. Your written words are correct. What's hard to understand, is, what is correct, LOVE is one. It matter your education to an extent, these days it seems to be dollars and cents.
Does one think that these professors are correct in what they teach, it is a challenge isn't it? Many others that do not have a degree, my be more knowledge, more experienced in their lives. AP

Welcome brother Al Beatty, may you have much peace and happiness in your life. AP
I enjoyed your photos as they look a lot like mine. I was in Quang Ngi province in the Americal Division Company B 23 rd Medical Battalion LZ Bronco. I actually used the same Minolta SRT 101 for a year and bought another one and it shipped stateside. I go home and it didn't work and had to go back to Japan for repairs. The camera I used for a year was going strong until I sold it. We shot slide film and developed it ourselves using the Ektachrome E-4 process. Wife send the chemicals and we used movie film stub rolls we purchased in the back of magazines. Worked great, still have almost 2K pictures.
