What a lovely fruit fly. The series is just great, by the way.

That is pretty neat! I guess the spider just sort of sidled up to the bug fellow and slowly injected it with venom, disabling it before it knew it was being et. Excellent series.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. Nice set.

It was suggested on FB that the spider is one of the Dictynidae (Mesh Web Weavers).
I didn't spend much time looking but didn't find a match.
Anyone know if they are the spiders that weave a dense web across a leaf?

This minute spider is a bit of an over-achiever! Sorta looks like an immature Jumper.

Here: http://bugguide.net/index.php?q=search&keys=mesh+web+spider&search=Search None of these are a complete match, but there could be variations.

Thanks Mark, I see some definite possibilities in there.

The fly looks like a Tritoxa incurva to me. I did some work with them some time ago. Note: on Bugguide there seem to be two wing patterns associated with this fly. I don't know if one is in error or if there are two varieties.

The images I'm seeing of Tritoxa incurva on BugGuide all have white lines that completely cross the wing. I didn't find the other pattern you saw. My fly has kind of triangular white patterns that seem to point in form the wing edge. Is that the other pattern you saw?

I'm pretty sure you are right Rick. Looks like a Picture-winged Fly (Ulidiidae) one of about 130+ species. I did some checking and I 'm sure you got it right. (Delphinia picta). Great shots.

If you go to Bugguide.net and put Tritoxa incurva in the search box you will get 19 pictures. In some of the pictures the white bands competely cross the wings and in some of the pictures the white bands do not cross the wings.
